Last night we had our first taste of The Masked Singer 2022 and we have a very rough idea of who is hiding behind the eccentric costumes this year.

For a quick recap on The Masked Singer news, this year we saw three new judges join Dave Hughes and host Osher Günsberg to decipher the mystery celebrities who are giving it all in the mystery song contest. The new judges include Scary Spice Mel B, Abbie Chatfield, and Chrissie Swan.

The show is set to run from Sunday to Tuesday every week, with a celebrity reveal at the end of each episode.

To kick this season off, we were introduced to five excellent masks, all with unique voices, clues, and costumes. Viewers met Blowfly, Mirrorball, Zombie, Thong, and Knight, and some of the voices sounded super familiar.

And SPOILER ALERT!!! The audience voted for ‘Knight’ to “take it off” in this first episode, but you will have to read until the end to find out who it is — honestly I was SHOOK with the voice of this Aussie icon.

So if you missed the first episode of The Masked Singer, do not fret! Here  is a mini recap of the clues and who we think is hiding behind the masks, with the help of some tweets:

Blowfly

In the clues, Blowfly had a lot of racing references, a German flag, pizza delivery innuendos, and they mentioned high fives and cricket. Blowfly also served a raspy voice, singing Miley Cyrus’ ‘Midnight Oil’.

Here’s who the judges think it is:

  • Chrissie Swan: Freddie Flintoff, pro-cricketer and host of Top Gear
  • Mel B: Daniel Riccardo, Aussie F1 Driver
  • Abbie Chatfield: Charli Robinson, singer of the original Hi-5
  • Hughesy: Stevie Nicks, lead vocalist of Fleetwood Mac

As a viewer, I believe it could possibly be comedian Tahir Bilgiç is known for his work in Australian comedy classics including Here Come The Habibs and my personal favourite, Fat Pizza. The show was always about fast cars, it has Vespas, and the Blowfly presented a lot of stage presence which Tahir would have due to his stand up comedy days.

The jacket also says ‘Flytrap Pizza’ which shared the same first letters of Fat Pizza. Tahir has also been on other reality TV shows, including I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.

But lots of people online think that Blowfly is the one and only, Shannon Noll:

Mirrorball

OK, so this performance was absolutely iconic! Mirrorball’s clues included her saying “I was born to do what I do, and my parents knew it”, a lot of disco moves, the Mexican flag, the number 48 and Pulp Fiction stars John Travolta and Uma Thurman.

Mirrorball sung the iconic Olivia Newtown-John’s song ‘Xanadu’ while hitting that final whistle tone.

Here’s who the judges think it is:

  • Chrissie Swan – Chloe Lattanzi, singer and daughter of Olivia Newton-John
  • Mel B – Samantha Jade, Australian singer, or Miley Cyrus
  • Abbie Chatfield – Kyle Richards
  • Hughesy – Lindsay Lohan

For me, I think the singer is the estranged Pussycat Doll member, Melody Thornton.

Melody was known for her killer vocals during her time with the girl group, and Mirrorball also briefly mentions what happens when the spotlight isn’t on her – she ‘does not react’ – which could possibly relate to that iconic ‘Buttons’ performance when Melody upstaged Nicole Scherzinger.

But I’m not going to lie, the clues had me stumped and I’m mostly going off the voice.

But here’s who Twitter thinks Mirrorball is:

Zombie

Zombie definitely has to be one of my faves. They’re so cute! Zombie’s clues included fruits, potatoes, a lot of flying, witches, and opera singing. Zombie performed Ava Max’s ‘Sweet but Psycho.’

Here’s who the judges think it is:

  • Chrissie Swan – Idina Menzel, broadway star and Princess Elsa from Frozen
  • Mel B – Heidi Klum, American superstar
  • Abbie Chatfield – Kate Richie, Australian actress
  • Hughesy – Janine Allis, founder of Boost Juice

For me, I got the vibes of Emma Watkins from the Wiggles. Zombie has a really soft voice, like Emma, and the clues reminded me of Wiggles bangers including ‘Hot Potato’ and ‘Fruit Salad’. It would also be cool if she was the zombie, because it’s a scary character and she’s usually a kid-friendly public figure.

Here’s who Twitter think it is:

Thong

Thong was so cute!! Their clues include a lot of beaches, fish, M&Ms, and Eminems, and a halo? The Thong sung the iconic ‘Footloose’ by Kenny Loggins, which was kinda fitting for the costume, I must say!

Here’s who the judges think it is:

  • Chrissie Swan – Bindi Irwin, Australian sweetheart (and I stand by saying that!!)
  • Mel B – Steph Gilmore, surfer
  • Abbie Chatfield – Khahn Ong, celebrity chef
  • Hughesy – Dido, UK singer

Personally, I am stumped on who this is, but the performance was super duper cute! I’m kinda tied between both Chrissie and Mel B’s guess. I can definitely see the playful attitude of Bindi Irwin through the thong but the voice doesn’t seem to match. Mel B’s guess of Steph Gilmore absolutely fits the clues with the beaches and fish.

And here’s what the Masked Singer fans on Twitter think:

Last, but not least, Knight

Knight was the first mask to be revealed this season, but before we tell you who it is, we have to give you a quick rundown on their clues, who the judges thought it was, and their performance! Their clue package included a RAAF jet, a horse, a bride, red roses, and a Swiss flag. Knight performed ‘Bad Habits’ by Ed Sheeran and I must say I was not expecting that voice!

Here’s who the judges think it is:

  • Chrissie Swan – Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins, former Bachelor
  • Mel B – Brendon Fevola, former AFL Player
  • Abbie Chatfield – Shannon Noll,  singer and icon
  • Hughesy – David Hasellhoff

I thought that Knight could possibly be Nick Cummins as well because of all the Bachelor clues, including the red roses and the bride vibes. Also the Knight was giving ‘manly man’ vibes and the Honey Badger also gives off that same vibe.

Here’s what twitter thinks:

As mentioned earlier, the Knight was the first mask to be revealed and it was none other than….Ryan Moloney, Aka Toadie Rebecchi from Neighbours.

With one episode down, the show has been great so far and the energy from the masks are oozing through the screen. I also really enjoyed the new judges and their strategies on who is behind the mask, especially Chrissie’s.
