The term ‘metrosexual’ might be outdated (the beauty buzzword is now as old as Justin Bieber) but its proponents aren’t, they’re just a bit more covert these days.

According to a beautyheaven survey, one in five Aussie men are making sure they’re taking care of their appearance, but aren’t buying the beauty products themselves – they’re just pinching their girlfriend or wives’. In fact, men are using them so frequently they’ve become part of their daily routine.

The social beauty network surveyed 1004 women across Australia found moisturiser and shampoo were the most used, followed by face or body wash. While a few guys who were a little more adventurous have tried the partner’s hairspray, fake tan, wax strips, and eyeliner.

On average, it costs their partner around $260 a year, with a third of women choosing to buy women’s beauty products for their male partner.

As to why men don’t buy it themselves, a quarter said they don’t know what to buy and a third can’t be bothered working it out but are happy to use them if they’re on the bathroom bench.

Editor of beautyheaven.com.au, Carli Alman, commented on the stats: “Despite stealing so many beauty products, Aussie blokes still spend a minimum amount of time getting ready. Nearly three quarters of men spend under 10 minutes in front of the mirror before they leave the house.”
