Why Won’t They Behave? A Heap Of Surprising Things People’s Sims Have Done
Play with life. Only in 'The Sims 4'
Half the fun of playing The Sims is indulging your God complex and making your Sims do super weird stuff. But the other half is the surprising amount of weird stuff they come up with on their own.
And that’s why this game has such a special place in our hearts. One moment you’re picking out wallpaper for your $5 million fantasy kitchen, the next your Sim is hitting on the Grim Reaper five minutes after her husband’s death. Get it Susan.
Over the years, the possibilities of The Sims have become so boundless and nuanced that you really never know what’s going to happen. You’re not boxed into any ‘shoot everything’ missions or cliché journey narratives. The only thing that’s boxed in is your Sim after you take all the doors away and set the room on fire.
So, to celebrate our everlasting obsession with The Sims, we’ve rounded up a whole heap of surprising things people’s Sims have done all by themselves.
#1 Sometimes they get a little too into the holiday spirit
No-one can deny the addictive allure of Christmas bangers. We’ve all listened to Mariah Carey’s iconic holiday anthem ‘All I Want For Christmas is You’ more times than we’re probably proud of. But is it music worth dying for? Yeah nah. Go make yourself a sandwich mate.
#2 Sometimes they’re more ambitious than you are
It does sting when your Sim wastes no time in becoming more successful than you are. Cheers Felicity.
After field work, I like to play sims to relax… but I guess #phdlife is just always on my mind. Why is my sim better at my job than I am?? #AcademicChatter pic.twitter.com/iohFT4pqUI

#3 Sometimes they grieve in very strange way
It’s unavoidable that, at some point, your Sims will encounter death. I mean, sure, sometimes it’s completely avoidable and you could just put the ladder back in the pool, but one way or another, death is a very real part of The Sims universe.
And though they may seem like mere fictional avatars of our own creation, our Sims definitely experience grief in their own ~unique~ ways.
#4 Sometimes they make strange impulse decisions
Classic move Vladislaus. Almost relatable. Almost.
#5 Sometimes they get their priorities a little mixed up
Oh, to be a Sim neglecting your basic needs and losing your imaginary job to play on a slip’n’slide.
#6 Sometimes they’re more progressive than you expect
This guy. This guy loved Harry Styles’ Vogue cover. This guy doesn’t interrupt you. This guy is a top 1 percent fan of Taylor Swift and not sorry about it. This guy can slide into my DMs anytime.
#7 Sometimes they’re really bad at their jobs
I would give about a 2/10 for this firefighter’s overall service. Minus 10 for doing absolutely nothing to help the actual crisis, but two points for quality bounce.
#8 Sometimes they spiral
To be fair, this Sim sounds like she’s really been through it. If you were spending your afterlife cleaning up after a cat and paying your family’s bills, you would probably succumb to a life of well-mixed boozing too.
#9 Sometimes they’re really bad parents
This is exactly the kind of attitude that gets the social worker Sim showing up at your house and taking away your kids.
#10 Sometimes they forget their manners
It’s unclear what exactly has gone down at this birthday party, but it doesn’t seem like the kind of behaviour you would expect of well-raised Sims. Why are they wearing paper bag masks? What is all over the floor? Why is that child impaling the planking dude?

#11 Sometimes they make themselves a little too at home
You know how it is, you try to be a good host, and there’s always that one person who never knows when to leave. Well, in The Sims that person literally moves in and starts living a clothes-optional life in your home. It’s never boring.
#12 Sometimes they need to bust a move
The Sims music slaps too hard to not expect the occasional spontaneous dance party. Even computer-generated Sim-humans need to get in their feels and cut some shapes every now and then.

#13 Sometimes they just need a moment
If your Sim is eating a bowl of salad while naked and alone in their full bathtub, it is either a kink or a cry for help. Ask yourself why they might be staring pensively at their bathtub-salad like this. Did you set anyone they love on fire recently? Introduce a new love interest for their significant other just to ‘keep things interesting’? Spend all their money on lamps?
#14 Sometimes stuff just gets weird
Apparently becoming a fully functioning ghost wasn’t weird enough, this Sim is also carrying around the ghost of the fish who slayed her. Wild.
