It’s been over a year since Tiger King mania swept the globe, making Joe Exotic a household name, and now Netflix’s popular true crime show is back with a second season.
The first season introduced viewers to the enigma that is Joe Exotic: a roadside zoo owner with multiple husbands, who is currently serving a prison sentence after being embroiled in a murder-for-hire plot to kill his rival Carole Baskin. But there are many more layers to this story than meets the eye. Firstly, Joe claims that Carole killed her ex-husband Don Lewis, as he’s been missing since 1997.
Then there’s Jeff Lowe, a deeply shady man who is also an owner of exotic animals. Joe reckons that Jeff framed him in an effort to take control of his zoo, which Jeff did end up owning for a time before Carole forced him to hand over the zoo to her as part of a settlement deal.
It’s a lot! The second season is focused primarily on what happened to Don, relaying some disturbing details that the first season neglected to mention, like claims that while living in Costa Rica, Don established an underage brothel and dated a 15-year-old girl. On one episode, some witnesses said that they reckon that Don is still alive and well, while in another episode Don’s family enlist the help of a psychic investigator who tells them he was murdered. The plot, she keeps getting thicc.
The second half of the latest season includes some pretty huge revelations about Joe’s actual involvement in a murder-for-hire plot. The most shocking moment came from a rather unhinged interview from alleged hitman Allen Glover, who is now claiming that the murder plot was devised by Jeff to kill (and decapitate) Joe — and not Carole.
