TikTok Is Obsessed With This Italian Boyfriend With Something To Hide
I remember the first day Couch Guy blew up all over TikTok, and my intuition had me screaming, “NOPE.” But, that feeling is coming back to haunt me, this time with a new Italian boyfriend and his reaction to his girlfriend’s surprise visit. People are now calling him “Gate Guy”.
Couch Guy was a video that went viral a while back where a girl also visited her LDR (long distance relationship) boyfriend in college, and his reaction was not the vibe. A lot of people commented on this interaction, talking about his body language — even suggesting he was cheating.
In the case of Gate Guy, it all started with Leila Licina (@Leilalicina) sharing her surprise visit to her boyfriend in Italy. The interaction was posted on TikTok, which then became viral, with the video receiving over six million views and over 7k comments.
To paint you a little picture of the reaction, Leila surprised her boyfriend Leonardo, and instead of letting her behind the house’s gate, he yells “Mama” in shock. He’s also still holding on to the edge of his open laptop. Viewers thought the man was giving off suss vibes throughout the whole video.

Some commenters asked where the hugs and kisses were, while others saw red flags when he was not letting his girlfriend in and instead yelled “Mama”, hypothesising that this was a distraction for another woman to run away.
One user, @HaveaCookieHoney wrote, “Where’s the hug? Is there another girl in the house?” Another one @Shy Mercedes added “Mama (is) code name (for) the other woman in the house!”
Comments under Leila’s video were also cursed with the phrase “New Couch Guy” and honestly, I agree with the girlies in the comments, because that reaction was not what I would expect.
But the story doesn’t end here. Leila uploaded a second part, this time showing her past the gate, finally embracing her man and meeting his mother, but according to the comments, Gate Guy still does not pass the vibe check.

However, some of the commenters were a bit more forgiving in part two, mentioning that it could be cultural difference or camera shyness. Also, we get to see his mum in this one, so we can confirm she was present.
@KatLuna wrote “I think he just didn’t want to show much PDA out of respect of the camera man.” Another user wrote, “Different cultures result in different reactions to emotions. I’m sure their house was prob a mess and wanted to clean it before letting her in.”
Even with some people trying to support the couple, other TikTokkers are still noticing red flags in the videos and sharing their opinions on the couple, with one user writing “Girl, you need to take the next flight out.”
But it looks like the pair are still together, as both of Leila and Leonardo still post about each other on their Instagram accounts.

My major takeaway form this whole fiasco is that I hope I am never confronted with a ‘Couch Guy’ moment and I am completely turned off by LDR’s.
