Tim Minchin Was Abused About Being Australian, After Expressing His Views On Brexit
It seems right now that everyone has an opinion on ‘Brexit’ – but some opinions are more valued then others. Namely, if you’re not a Brit, stay outta it.
This seems to be the case, after Tim Minchin was forced to clap back at the criticism he received after weighing in on the EU referendum debate as an Aussie.
The 40-year-old Australian comedian, musical theatre star and composer of West End smash Matilda the Musical, was vocal on Twitter on his anti-Brexit stance and his views that the referendum could be reversible.
I know I don't need to say this. But Brexit vote was non-binding. A passionate majority post-referendum reaction would make govt reassess

And to the angry: Referendums are non-binding. & protest is ALSO democratic. So argue if you want, but try for a moment not to be a bigot.

Whether we exit remains a govt decision. The circusesque referendum got some data. The decision can be also be influenced by protest, etc

But his Twitter rant was not appreciated by some, arguing that he is not entitled to share his views because he is Australian.
Steady on, we’re people too.
Despite the abuse, Minchin wouldn’t have a bar of it. He was in fact born in Northampton in England to Australian parents and has spent most of his career working in the U.K as a U.K citizen.
For the dickheads: I am a UK born UK citizen, pay huge UK tax, my work helps employ hundreds of Brits & pumps millions into your economy.

Despite the abuse, Minchin clarified his statements below.
Some recent tweets were taken out of context & spread beyond Twitter. An overview of my points, for the record: pic.twitter.com/NRBoRlkUpz
