‘Too Hot To Handle’s Aussie Contestant Harry Is Dividing International Opinion

Love him or hate him, Australia’s own Harry Jowsey from Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle is getting loads of international attention right now.

While most of the contestants on the reality dating show hail from either North America or the UK, there’s one Australian contestant reppin’ for our whole country, and it feels deeply weird to hear our own accent on a reality TV series on Netflix.

Harry is no stranger to reality TV, in fact the former model not only starred in but won New Zealand dating show Heartbreak Island in 2018. Originally from Queensland, Harry’s now largely based in Los Angeles where he owns a sunglasses line and his own clothing brand called err…Naughty Possums.

On the first episode of Too Hot To Handle, Harry quickly got viewers offside after he lied about whether another contestant, Francesca Farago, had tried to snog him. There’s no denying this was a dick move, as on this particular reality show, kissing (among other deeds) is banned and penalised.

Harry then gaslit Francesca in front of the other contestants, making it seem like she was the one trying to manipulate the group. Frustratingly, most of the group believed Harry over Francesca. This whole scene led to Netflix viewers turning on Harry, labelling him the series’ villain.

The majority of Too Hot To Handle viewers are not vibing with the Aussie contestant:

Along with some haters, Harry has a few fans who found him and his antics at the very least amusing:

While Harry goes on quite a journey throughout the series — shedding a few emotional layers while becoming less arrogant and stubborn — by the end of the series he still failed to get many fans on board.

Some even reckon he’s ruined the Aussie accent for them. The shade!

It’s obviously important to remember that one guy cannot represent a population of 25 million people. But also, he reminds me of at least five guys who rejected me on Tinder, so we’ve got to admit that our country is absolutely crawling with men like Harry.

We could do a lot worse.
