2017 was a standout year for film and it looks like Hollywood’s momentum will power through into the new year with some massive blockbusters sure to wet your movie-obsessed appetite.
Film franchises like The Avengers, Fantastic Beasts, Jurassic World and Deadpool are all returning with hectic new movies, while original flicks including Margot Robbie’s I, Tonya and Aussie all-star led Swinging Safari are sure to create plenty of buzz.
We’ve rounded up the trailers for the films we’re most excited for in 2018 so you binge at your own convenience.
Here are the movies that’ll dominate 2018:
Avengers: Infinity War
The new Avengers is the most-anticipated film of 2018 by a longshot, mostly because it is bringing so many superheroes together in one movie. We’re talking the main players: Ironman, Thor, The Hulk and Spider-Man, alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy gang. It’s going to be epic and will likely make Justice League feel like bad dream.
A Wrinkle in Time
Based on the 1962 novel of the same name, this adventure fantasy film looks absolutely bonkers. But with a cast that includes the likes of Oprah, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon we are 100 percent keen for it. It’ll probz be huge or a spectacular flop and we want a front row seat.
Incredibles 2
The sequel comes a massive 14 years after the original, so fans are well and truly psyched for the return of the superpower wielding fam. In the new flick, Elastigirl kicks butt as we meet villain The Underminer. Yaas!
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Our leads return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano but come face-to-face with gigantic new breeds of dinos in the process. Most importantly, silver-fox and professional sexpot Jeff Goldblum is back this time around.
I, Tonya
This movie is already getting a load of award’s season buzz, especially our own Margot Robbie for her transformative performance as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding. The movie looks enthralling, following the fallout of Tonya being embroiled in accusations she was involved in the assault of her Olympic rival Nancy Kerrigan.
Swinging Safari
A retro flashback to Australia in the 1970’s, Guy Pearce and Kylie Minogue get their nostalgia on for this good vibes film set at a local beach. It could be an instant classic or a total garbage fire.
Deadpool 2
It’s all fairly hush-hush on any deets for the sequel, and we don’t even know the official name of the second film yet. What we do know is the first film broke all kind of records and created both critical and box-office nepalm, so we can’t wait to see what Ryan Reynold’s has cooked up for us all next.
Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald
The second film in the Fantastic Beasts series, this time J.K. Rowling takes us on a journey following Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore as they battle the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Let’s just pretend Johnny Depp’s controversial presence in the film is merely a mirage.
Black Panther
This movie is just what 2018 needs. With a predominantly black cast, the Marvel superhero film follows the King of Wakanda as he returns home to take his rightful place as king. The assemble includes the likes of Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, so yes please!
A Quiet Place
We can’t complete this list without including a film that’ll likely spook us all to tears. Starring Emily Blunt and her irl hubby John Krasinski (who also directs) as a family living on a farm that has to avoid making any noise and instead communicate in sign language in order to evade a supernatural evil attracted to sound. Yup, it looks scary as hell.
