International Women’s Day: Triple J Will Only Play Female Artists Today
Today, there will be no dicks on the dancefloor on radio stations Triple J, Double J and Unearthed. In honour of International Women’s Day, the stations will play only female artists and bands on their stations- that are often dominated by men.
As part of the program, some of our favourite ladies will come on the show to discuss the women who’ve inspired them, it’s rumored we might hear from Tkay Maidza, Alpine, Hopes from Tired Lion, Lizzy from MS MR, MØ and Halsey.
It's International Women's Day so we've got kick-ass women centre stage from music to presenters! #GirlsToTheFront pic.twitter.com/siIliDMAnE

The female-only dedicated day comes after Triple J’s Hottest 100 came under fire AGAIN, after only 24 percent of the list was by female artists. No women were in the top ten whatsoever, which is slightly cray since Courtney Barnett was by far one of our local break-out successes from last year- even scoring a Grammy nod.
Good on the team at Triple J! But remember, if they think equality comes by offering women a token day a year, they really need to look deeper into the many gender-biases within the Australian music industry.
And remember…who run the world?
