Vampires rise up. Just six years after the original True Blood ended, the popular supernatural series is getting a reboot.

According to E! News, the reboot of the addictive HBO series is hitting the American streaming-service, HBO Max, sometime in the near future. At this time, we’re not sure which Aussie streaming service will house this reboot, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out.

In terms of the nitty-gritty details, they haven’t given us much info yet. We do know that HBO has been working on this project for almost a year now, and we know some of the important figureheads involved. Let’s break them down.

Who’s Involved In The True Blood Reboot?

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who you may know as the Riverdale creator, will co-write the pilot episode. Funnily enough, Aguirre-Sacasa also has the Pretty Little Liars reboot on his hands, and really, we can’t help but wonder what’s next?

Joining Aguirre-Sacasa is Jami O’Brien, the creator of NOS4A2 (another vampire series) who will co-write the pilot episode and also executive produce the show. Love that for her. True Blood’s creator Alan Ball is also listed as an executive producer, so at least we know this reboot is in good hands.

There haven’t been any announcements about the cast or the characters yet. We can’t help but wonder if any of the OGs will reprise their roles, especially Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård and Australia’s own Ryan Kwanten.

The original True Blood series was based off Charlaine Harris’ novels, The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The show revolved around Sookie Stackhouse (played by Paquin), a waitress living in the town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, who had the power of telepathy. The series aired for seven seasons, nabbing an Emmy and a Golden Globe in the process.

The series’ finale was widely panned by critics and fans, with viewers frustrated with how such an exciting series could come to such a boring and bland end. Tbh, as the series went on, it became increasingly difficult to follow (especially Season 6 and 7), so hopefully the reboot will go back to the show’s roots.

We couldn’t be more excited for this True Blood reboot if we tried.
