BREAKING: NSW Comes To Their Senses And Officially Makes UBER Legal

Mike Baird and his band of merry state government ministers have today closed the door on all the fuss and debate surrounding Uber. This afternoon, the cabinet gave the ride sharing service the green light to continue operations, officially making it legal. Yay for common sense!

At the same time, they’ve established a compensation plan that will roll out to taxi owners who will suffer a loss in revenue from the arguably better system. The whole thing makes a bucket load of sense for progressing travel for passengers, but is without doubt going to continue causing a bit of tension on the roads.

According to the Daily Telegraph, about 5,800 perpetual plate owners will be given a $20,000 flat fee while a compensation fund will be distributed on a case-by-case basis for plate owners who only recently entered the industry. Uber drivers will now also need to pay a licence fee to earn money using the app and will have to undergo criminal background checks. Meanwhile, the traditional cabbie will still get dibs at the taxi ranks and will have exclusive access to Sydney airport.

Lets just hope everyone can now take a deep breath and move on with it.
