The University of Tasmania is on Alert After a Security Threat
The University of Tasmania has received a security threat this morning and issued public updates via its Facebook page. Staff are working with the police and have issued a statement reassuring students and staff at the University that they should go about their business today. That means exams and assignments will go ahead 🙁
The threat comes only a day out from UNSW issuing a security warning after an anonymous campus shooting threat was made by a 4Chan user.
There will be an increased security and police presence across all UTAS campuses throughout the day, given the threat was not directed to any particular campus.
Tasmania Police Commander Glenn Frame says the threats possibly stem from overseas user, after teling The Hobart Mercury newspaper “There’s wording in (the threats) that gives us some comfort that it may be an offshore threat.” “But obviously we need to confirm that and not jump to conclusions.”
