Just because Victorian State Leader Daniel Andrews shut down the controversial East-West Link, adding more controversy to our ever controversial outer-city roads, doesn’t mean other toll roads aren’t an option.

Today the Vic state government have confirmed they’re going a head with an alternative new road plan. The new toll road is to be dubbed The Western Distributor, and will cost roughly $5.5 billion dollars, which will be raised through its tolls and donations from the state and federal governments.

I’d rather have a train, but you know. Politics.

Mr Andrews was really positive about the new project because A) more jobs B) less congestion on the West Gate Bridge and C) pedestrian and cycle paths!!!!

“Motorists will see an immediate travel time saving of up to 20 minutes a day – almost two hours a week Victorians can spend at home with family instead of stuck in traffic on the West Gate or Monash”

The Western Distributor Project has the expectation to create 5,600 new jobs. It’s planned for construction to begin in 2018 and it’s expected to finish up in 2022.

The Vic gov reckons the tunnel will take 6,000 trucks off the West Gate Bridge every day and save commuters somewhere around 20 minutes each day in travel time.
