Did you know Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is almost double the size of the city of Manhattan? There’s a reason there’s “world” in its name: featuring four theme parks, two water parks, more than 25 Resort Hotels, and many retail, dining, entertainment options at Disney Springs, it truly is a world in itself.

With so much to explore, it’s worth planning a holiday dedicated entirely to Walt Disney World Resort. But where do you even begin? There are plenty of attractions that aren’t to be missed, but if you’re on a search for thrills, here are our top 10 faves that you should definitely check out:

10. Happily Ever After Nighttime Spectacular at Magic Kingdom Park

You can’t leave Walt Disney World Resort without experiencing Happily Ever After at least once (or even more). Cinderella Castle is exciting enough to see during the day, but at night it becomes a spectacle to behold as its transformed with projections, music, and fireworks into an unmissable show. It’s the ultimate celebration of Disney stories.

9. Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

While other attractions will let you experience the magic of Disney’s storytelling, this one is a reminder of how incredible and breath-taking our own world and animals can be. You’ll journey in an open-air vehicle across a savanna straight out of Africa, getting a close-up look at very real and beautiful animals. There are over 30 species stretched out across 110 acres that you may catch a glimpse of, including lions, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and hippos – plus some unusual animals like the Okapi!

8. Meet Some of Your Favourite Disney Characters at All Four Parks

There’s no doubt getting to meet some of your fave Characters is one of the main unmissable attractions at Walt Disney World Resort. You’ll find them scattered all over Magic Kingdom Park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. Look out for Mickey and Minnie and some of their friends, as well as Characters from some of your favourite stories – like Anna, Elsa and Olaf from Frozen, some of the toys from Toy Story, Chewbacca from Star Wars, Disney princesses and many more that you might be able to snap a photo with!

7. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

A trip to Walt Disney World Resort wouldn’t be complete without experiencing this classic attraction. You enter the spooky Hollywood Tower Hotel that seems frozen in time — in 1939, to be specific. That’s when a bunch of guests disappeared in the elevator in the midst of a storm. Naturally, the elevator is your next stop: get ready to expect the unexpected as it rises and drops like it has a life of its own.

6. Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

If you watched Avatar and wished you could actually be in the world of Pandora, this is the perfect opportunity. You get to experience the feeling of bonding with a Banshee just like a true Na’vi, taking flight over Pandora in an experience that lets you immerse yourself in the spectacular beauty of the landscape and wildlife as though you’re really there.

5. Soarin’ Around the World at EPCOT

It might be impossible to fly all around the world in a matter of moments in real life, but at Walt Disney World Resort, the impossible becomes possible. In this 180-degree, 80-foot digital projection dome, you’ll soar from one incredible location to another, from the Swiss Alps to Mount Kilimanjaro to the Great Wall of China and even our very own Sydney Harbour. The bird’s eye view of it all set to a magical score will leave you feeling absolutely exhilarated.

4. Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park

You might not all be able to blast off into space, but thanks to Space Mountain you can get the experience of it — without any of the hard space training, with all of the thrilling twists and turns. This enclosed roller-coaster is your rocket that takes you across the galaxy and beyond, bringing you in close contact with stars, satellites, meteors, and a wormhole with its own centre of gravity.

3. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Fancy yourself a Resistance fighter worthy of defeating the First Order? This is your chance to prove it. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance sees the Resistance gathering recruits for a secret mission — and you’re one of them. The thrills really amp up when your transport is captured by a First Order Star Destroyer, and a team of the most elite Resistance fighters must help you escape. You even get to see some of your fave Characters, including Kylo Ren, BB-8 and Rey.

2. TRON: Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park

One of the fastest coasters at any Disney Park in the world makes TRON: Lightcycle / Run an must-experience attraction for anyone who wants to get the heart pumping. You get to climb on your own Lightcycle and join Team Blue as you enter the Grid from Tron and find yourself in a high-speed race — the kind you are going to want to experience again and again.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT

This is a newer attraction that will immerse you in Xander and make you feel like you’re actually one of the Guardians of the Galaxy. It all starts calmly enough in the Galaxerium — a planetarium-style exhibition that showcases the wonders of Xander and its technology. But before the tour is over, the Guardians of the Galaxy face an emergency situation that requires your help, and you strap in for an epic space chase. The thrills are pulled off with a reverse launch coaster — a first for Disney — which rotates 360 degrees in a fully enclosed space that puts you right in the middle of the action.
