Someone from marketing at Pepsi most definitely needs to get fired, after a cringe-worthy advertisement featuring top model Kendall Jenner hit the interwebs yesterday.

While the company has since pulled the ads after almost universal condemnation, the giant stuff-up still has people scratching their heads over how the ad ever got okayed in the first place.

The video has a mix of protesters from different backgrounds calling for action. Action for what? Who knows. Maybe an end to Coco Cola Life. But despite all the efforts of the people on the ground marching for change, it is Jenner that bridges the gap – by taking a break from her modelling job and handing a police officer a can of Pepsi. Problem solved.

The tone-deaf story seems to shrug off the history of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement in the US; the ad is literally a textbook example of the ‘white savior’ complex in motion.

It’s excruciating stuff to watch, and has opened the floodgates for a bunch of bang-on spoofs. In particular, inserting Jenner into a range of historical moments, asking what could have been? If only an ice cold can of Pepsi was offered at the time.

But one of the most hilarious parodies set to go viral is from Australia’s own The Feed. Using the ad’s protest song Skip Marley’sLions’ masterfully, the clip takes the piss out of Pepsi’s attempts to fix all the world’s problem through fizzy cola.
