WATCH: The Hilltop Hoods and Google Have Joined Forces On A New 3D Video Clip
Hilltop Hood’s founding member MC Pressure has teamed up with Google to share the experience of his sons cancer journey, while raising money for an incredible project.
A new collaboration between The Hilltop Hoods and Google brings music and technology together for a great cause. The unlikely pairing comes as a music video for the group’s song ‘Through The Dark,‘ a personal track written by MC Pressure (Dan Smith) dealing with his son Liam’s cancer diagnosis.
Dan wrote the song during the six months he was living in hospital with Liam, who was undergoing treatment for leukaemia. While he admits it was one of the toughest times in his life, this project with Google and CanTeen has become such a positive experience which will raise money for other young people battling the disease.
For every fan who listens to Hilltop Hoods’ latest album on Google Play Music via the link at the clip’s conclusion, Google and Hoods have pledged to donate $1 to CanTeen. The money raised will boost a new project called ‘Side of Stage’, which will enable young people affected by cancer special access to live music shows across the country.
Speaking to TheVine, Dan said,
We wanted to leave behind a legacy for other young people who’s world’s have been turned upside down. We hope the Side Of Stage project with CanTeen helps bring them closer to music they love.
Google explains that they didn’t want to create a new app that fans had to download, instead the video launches through a mobile web browser and is cleverly created in code. As users spin their mobile, they can interact with two ‘worlds’ showing a story that is light – representing hope and dark representing fear. Overall the tech, together with the music creates a really powerful experience.
It was a genuine partnership. The track is so special that we wanted to share it with fans in a new way that only Google could help bring to life through technology.
There’s also a great end to Dan’s story – his son Liam is cancer free and has been living the life of a healthy 12 year old for over two years now.
The video is now live and can be viewed at throughthedark.withgoogle.com on mobile and desktop.
