Lamb-Pede! Watch Thousands Of NZ Sheep Go Baaaa-llistic And Run Through Traffic
LAMBPEDE – IN THE GORGE – SIMBA IS DOWN THERE!
On the 24th of January, while most of us were getting our snags or placard signs ready for Australia Day activities, the sheep of New Zealand were having a bit of a moment.
Facebook user Emmeline Allen caught the fuss of hundreds of sheep blocking up traffic in Waioeka Gorge (near Gisborne) on the day. Gisborne is popular for its surfing locations, but these waves upon waves of wool aren’t what people were expecting on this particular day.
New Zealand, which is famous for it’s sheep, now has around seven sheep to ever one person (that’s about 30 million of the woolly creatures). Their sheep-to-person ratio (yes, that’s a thing) leads Australia where there’s an estimated 74 million sheep to 23.5 million people — a ratio of three to one (source). We’ll let the Kiwi’s claim that one.
Not sheepish enough to stay quiet, the livestock can be heard throughout the video with Allen commenting on the seemingly never-ending parade of freshly shorn sheep sweeping by.
“Look at how far they go, all the way down the road,” you can hear Allen say in the video.
Since posting, the video has gone viral with over 1.7 million views so far.
LAMB-PEDE!!!My favourite video I’ve ever filmed!! I think? Magic moment for me. Make sure you can have the volume on as that’s half the fun 🙂
