While 2022 is coming to a close, Netflix has sneaked in an absolute banger of a series, Wednesday, that’s proving to be a cultural reset for pop culture fans.

In case you haven’t been keeping up with the newest shows out there (which is totally fine ‘cos life is super busy, so no judgement here), Netflix released Wednesday last month which follows the teenage life of the Addams family’s golden girl, Wednesday Addams. The series is focused on Wednesday but does feature appearances from the whole Addams fam and, of course, the hand Thing.

The eight-episode series is mostly centred around Wednesday’s antics at new school, Nevermore Academy: an educational institution that caters to outcasts, freaks, and monsters. It’s here that Wednesday meets quirky werewolf and roommate Enid, rival Bianca, and is reunited with childhood crush, Xavier.

The show hosts a bunch of talent, with scream queen Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie as Principal Weems, and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia.

Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 90s reboot The Addams Family, and its sequel, Addams Family Values, also stars in the series as dorm mum, Marilyn Thornhill.

The show is full of suspense, thrills and twists, along with iconic dialogue from Wednesday — making it a truly fun watch. The series is also visually stunning. I mean, half of the episodes were directed by Tim Burton, so the goth details were on point.

Wednesday has broken a bunch of records on Netflix since its debut in November, and could possibly dethrone Stranger Things as the streaming platform’s most viewed show. As reported in Variety, more than 50 million households watched the spooky series in the first week after it premiered.

Wednesday also spent four weeks on Netflix’s global top 10, and IMO, it’ll probably be there for a while.
