Broadway fans, get ready and look to the western sky! Defying rumours it wasn’t to be, a ‘Wicked’ movie is definitely happening. Huzzah!

The Tony Award-winning musical ‘Wicked’ has been seen by nearly 50 million fans worldwide, and is all set to head to the silver screen.

It even has a release date. Universal Pictures announced today that the feature film adaptation of the stage production will be in theaters 20 December, 2019.

Woo!

Sure, it’s still a while away but it’s coming, and obvs planned to be released during the busy holiday season.

The story tells the tale of the Wicked Witch of the West, the green-tinged Elphaba and good witch Galinda in the land of Oz before Dorothy’s arrival in ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Directing the film will be ‘Billy Elliot’s’ Stephen Daldry and it’s being produced by Marc Platt. But the big question is, who will star in the movie version?

Hopes are high that the original Galinda and Elphaba – Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel – will return to light up our screens.

Chances might be good, as only a month ago the two performed together for the first time in 12 years, reuniting on the musical’s hit ‘For Good’.

They must be sending us a very clear sign! A girl can dream.

Until then, watch their reunion below.
