Only Women Of The US Senate Showed Up For Work After The ‘Snowzilla’ Blizzard

The record-breaking ‘Snowzilla‘ storm in the United States has come and gone, but it seems the blokes of the American Upper House are more hesitant to come out of hiding than their female counterparts.

That’s right, after the east coast of Amercia was completely covered in inches (and in some cases, metres) of snow, only the women of the Senate in Washington DC showed up for work. Senator Lisa Murkowski, a republican from Alaska, noticed that something was different about the government that morning and used her speaking time to point it out.

“As we convene this morning, you look around the chamber, the presiding officer is female. All of our parliamentarians are female. Our floor managers are female. All of our pages are female.”

As it turns out, Senator Susan Collins from Maine (also Republican) and Senator Murkowski hadn’t actually tried to organise an all female senate meeting. The women stated that it just was a coincidence.

Senator Murkowski cheekily hinted to the notion that the lack of men in the ranks of members and staffers might not have been a simple fluke.

“Perhaps it speaks to the hardiness of women… that put on your boots and put your hat on and get out and slog through the mess that’s out there.”

Knowing how my dad reacts to cold weather, I’d say the men of the US Senate might be suffering from a man-flu epidemic.
