The 5 Worst Reactions To Amber Heard’s Domestic Violence Allegations
Over the weekend, it was revealed that there is much more to the divorce of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard then what was first thought. Heard has successfully filed for a restraining order against Depp, citing domestic abuse during their relationship and appearing to show some pretty serious injuries to her face.
Since this news has broken, the reactions both online and from the media have been extreme, illogical and just plain insulting, from calling for a boycott of Depp’s films to the victim blaming of Heard.
Here are the worst reactions to the domestic violence allegations:
Boycotting Alice Through The Looking Glass
In a largely illogical move, in a show of solidarity with Heard after the allegations were made, people have tweeted they #StandWithAmber and will not see Depp’s latest flick Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Boycott Alice through the looking glass. Don't put no more money into Johnny Depp women hitting pockets

Damn I really wanted to see Alice Through the Looking Glass but I don't want to support an abusive fuckhead like Johnny Depp

This is despite Depp only appearing in a handful of scenes – for those that have actually seen the film. Film insider Tara McNamara told ET that a boycott of the movie would not actually hurt Depp, financially.
“While the film’s plot revolves around Depp’s character, The Mad Hatter, Alice Through the Looking Glass is really a Mia Wasikowska film — her character Alice is in every scene,” said McNamara.
Australia’s own Wasikowska is the star of the film, and should she suffer? McNamara adds for an actually distinctively feminist film, a boycott based on the appearance of a man in it, is pretty damn insulting.
“Ironically, [the movie] is a female empowerment story with a strong, capable and smart young woman as a protagonist; it would be a shame if girls miss out on such a positive projection because of the alleged bad behavior of one man.”
It has even already been reported that the film has been a flop in its opening weekend, taking in an estimated $28 million domestic – about a quarter of what the original did. However, this has seemingly been overly attributed to Depp’s appearance, considering the films mediocre reviews and lack of marketing, compared to the original.
Publishing Images Of Heard Appearing Happy
This is the most disgusting trend so far, with a number of tabloids publishing images of Heard appearing at a party, after she filed the restraining order. The papers have noted that the actress looked happy – as if this contradicts her allegations.
Some have even gone as far to say, she didn’t have the same extent of injuries, despite the harmed eye clearly being covered in the below shot.
It’s some pretty ugly reporting and also seems to perpetuate the mistrust of victims, and that abuse victims must remain in state of sorrow and shock, to somehow validate their claims.

Making Crude Jokes At The Couple’s Expense
Similarly to the Chris Brown allegations back in 2009, people on Twitter were quick to ridicule and make light of some fucking serious allegations – showing extreme insensitivity to both Heard and Depp’s families.

Victim Blaming
This one is just bizarre. Somehow amongst the many sides of the story, some areas of the media have sought to blame Heard’s lesbian friendships as a reason for the demise of their relationship. Yep, sure it was Heard and her lesbian friends’ fault.
it's the lesbians!!! case solved!!! depp is innocent but the LESBIANS???? see you in Court!!!!! https://t.co/2qDCJ0NUf1

Every One Becomes A Couch Detective
Whenever there is any kind of debate involving celebrities in the public sphere and the law, people are keen to jump on the bandwagon and everyone thinks they’re a bloody detective.
The major point people seem to be arguing is that Los Angeles Police had been called to the pair’s home just two days before Heard filed for divorce, but it had been determined on arrival that no evidence that a crime occurred had been found.
This has largely been reported without noting that when the police arrived to the scene, Depp had already fled, and Heard chose to not make an official statement.
Whether a crime took place or not, it’s really none of our business and when it comes down to the thick of it… WE DON’T KNOW SHIT. Couch detectives just feed the public into thinking we are entitled to know the private lives of Heard and Depp.
She was beaten the entire relationship ? Typical for someone looking for a payday. #imwithjohnny #teamDepp #byeamber #liarliar #girlbye
