Yesterday Was Bloody Awful, But These Celebs Don’t Want Us To Lose Hope
Well, it happened folks. Despite the prayers of millions wishing it was just a prank gone out of hand, as of this morning one human orange Donald Trump is officially the 45th President of the United States of America. (It still hurts just writing that)
And yeah, there’s no denying this sucks. Out of all the possible outcomes of this wild election process, this is the result it appears no one anticipated. It feels like when you’re reading a choose your own adventure novel and you get the nightmarishly bad, joke ending so you go back to the beginning of the book to start again. But here we are.
However, despite this scary reality, we can’t lose hope.
Yeah, Donald Trump is President. Yeah, his policies are pretty goddamn shitty. Yeah, his election has caused widespread fear and protest.
However, despite the fact this man is the new leader of the US, instead of becoming fearful, we need to continue the progress we have made over the past eight years. We need to continue showing love for all people and keep fighting in the face of adversity.
It is not the ideal outcome, that is certain, however it is something we can survive. This is the feeling some celebs have sought to capture, calling on hope and optimism above all else.
These sentiments were summed up perfectly by rapper and all-around good egg Macklemore in a tear-jerking Instagram post dedicated to his daughter.
“I don’t have control over Donald Trump becoming president. That has been decided. But what I do have control over is where I go from here. I will teach my daughter to love. All people, regardless of the color of their skin, gender, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or where their birth certificate says they’re from,” he posted.
“I will teach her that walls divide people, and by their nature cannot bring us closer. And that just because someone holds the most powerful position in the world, does not make that person right, just or fair. Donald Trump is not raising my daughter. I am.”
Lady Gaga was also one to spread the message of hope, peacefully protesting in front of Trump Tower.
Beacon of lols, George Takei gave us these wise words.
The unthinkable happened before, to my family in WWII. We got thru it. We held each other close. We kept our dignity and held to our ideals.
