You can own your very own working R2-D2 very soon

This might just be more exciting than the impending release of the next wave of Star Wars movies; a working R2-D2 droid that will bring you cold drinks inside its refrigerated storage bay.

The droid comes to us not from a galaxy far far away, but from Japanese tech company Haier Asia in collaboration with Disney, who of course now own the franchise.

It was shown off by Haier Asia CEO Yoshiaki Ito in Tokyo last week who stressed that the droid would be rolling out into production and was not just a concept.

Other features of the R2 unit include its signature sounds and ‘head’ swivel. There hasn’t been a price yet set on owning your very own, but they are expected to be available in early 2016.

Now all we need is a lightsaber and we will be all set.
