Just Hear Me Out: Boxing Day Is The Superior December Holiday

Congrats everyone! We made it to Boxing Day!

2020 is almost over and we’ve arrived at the greatest day of the year. Now, I know what you’re thinking, ‘How is Boxing Day better than Christmas? Or Christmas Eve for that matter?’ Well, allow me to explain, in-depth, why Boxing Day is the superior holiday. Let’s go.

#1. The Sales

Let’s kick things off with the obvious, the sales. There are two days when shoppers should go out and purchase unnecessary things and that’s Black Friday and Boxing Day. Welcome to the latter.

Go ahead and take advantage of all the sales by buying the things you’ve always craved but never had the guts to actually go out and buy. Given the current state of the world, we recommend taking advantage of Boxing Day sales online this year. Think about it: No bumping into strangers, no impulse purchases at the counter, just good old-fashioned calculated shopping with excellent discounts.

Boxing Day

Have fun!

#2. The Movies

Boxing Day

Who doesn’t love seeing a new blockbuster in the cinemas? If it’s COVID-safe for you to hit up the cinemas, why not check out the family-friendly flick The Croods: A New Age, or the heavily-anticipated Wonder Woman: 1984. Honestly, any excuse to enter air-con during the Aussie summer sounds good to us.

#3. The Leftovers

Oh no, did you over-prepare for Christmas dinner and now have copious amounts of food leftover? Yeah, we all did. Luckily for us, Boxing Day is here to be the day we consume all the foods! Don’t even try to tell me that leftovers don’t taste better the next day, because they absolutely do.

#4. This One’s For The Sport Fans

Now, I’m not someone who’s super into-sport, but I do love me some backyard cricket. If you’re not watching cricket on the television, Boxing Day is the perfect day to kick-back, whip out the beers and have a fun game of your own.

#5. Play With Presents

Boxing Day

Okay, so Christmas may be the day you receive the present. But, the day after is the day you get to play with it (depending on what it is). So go ahead, go and play with, wear, cook with, or do whatever with what you got yesterday. You deserve it.

#6. No Stress

Boxing Day

Ultimately, the main reason why we love Boxing Day is that it’s a day without stress.

While Christmas is meant to be full of fun and family, ultimately it’s just a day of stress. And really, that’s why the day after is superior.

Boxing Day

You get the same food and hang out with the same people but without the stress of throwing the most perfect celebration ever. There’s no food prep, no need to make the tree immaculate because all that is behind you! Today, you can chill out, nap and do whatever you please.

Also, while we’re on the subject matter, did you know that Americans are confused by our Boxing Day traditions? How random.

Happy Boxing Day, y’all!
