It’s 2022 And The Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera Feud Is Still Going
Britney Spears may have relit the feud between her and Christina Aguilera, and honestly, the whole fight is giving major ’00s flashbacks.
It all began when Britney posted a picture with a quote from comedian Rodney Dangerfield that reads, “I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.” But what got people super riled up was Britney’s caption to the photo, which mentioned Christina.
“I mean, if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers, I would have looked extremely small 💃💃💃… I mean, why not talk about it??” the ‘Circus’ singer wrote.
Within the caption, Britney also talked about her confidence and the impact her conservatorship had on her choices.

Fans have pleaded for the pop star to delete the post, with some claiming the star is being fatphobic towards her fellow pop star.
One user wrote, “this post screams pick me girl 😢”, and another wrote, “Britney, this ain’t it. I know you’ve missed a lot, but it’s 2022. We don’t care about that shit anymore. And we don’t fat shame ourselves or others.”
Britney has since responded to the backlash. In another lengthy Insta post, the pop princess spoke about how she was not being critical of Christina’s body and that the ‘Dirrty’ singer inspired her. Spears also tagged Christina in her latest post.
“By no means was I being critical of Christina’s beautiful body, it is what it is!!!” Britney wrote. “By no means did I even mention Christina, look at my post !!! I was inspired by her show and she is a beautiful woman of power … Thank you @xtina for inspiring me!!!”
Britney then went onto to talk about why she posted the quote writing, “I’m not trying to be critical of anybody. What I posted is a projection of the insecurities I deal with all the time as a result of how my parents and the media have treated me.”

So far, the reception to Britney’s follow-up post has been pretty positive, with fans showering the star with love. One user, who goes by @scandi_unicorn wrote, “don’t worry, Britney. Your true fans knows you didn’t mean any harm in that post ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
However, fans have since realised that Christina had unfollowed Britney from the ‘gram. Britney also doesn’t follow Christina at all. Christina has yet to respond publicly to the comments made by Britney but honestly, we think that unfollowing each other is kinda like the modern-day equivalent of telling people that the vibes are bad.
Britney and Christina have famously been pitted against each other since the very early days of their careers. Both got their start with The Mickey Mouse Club and shot to stardom in the late ’90s, with the two often being compared and dominating storylines for their alleged rivalry, which they both have denied over the years.
In a 2018 Jimmy Kimmel Live interview, Christina spoke about the apparent rivalry with Britney, stating if they had social media back then they would’ve been able to put the rumours to rest. “When I was coming up, it was very obvious, you know. Me and Britney (Spears) were definitely considered a rivalry thing.”
And who could forget the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards where the two teamed up with Madonna in what was, at the time, a controversial performance, with both pop stars sharing a kiss with Madonna.
Just after Madonna and Britney’s kiss, the camera cut away to capture Britney’s ex, Justin Timberlake’s, reaction which took away from Christina’s smooch with the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer.
Radio host Andy Cohen, in 2018, asked Christina if it “bugged her” that the cameras cut away from her kiss with Madonna. “It was weird. And do you know why they cut away for it? Because, you know, they cut away to get Justin (Timberlake’s) reaction,” Christina said, “It was a cheap shot… Like OK.”
In 2004, Christina also famously told US Weekly, “I know Britney. She’s not trailer trash, but she sure acts that way.”
More drama unfolded during the #FreeBritney movement in late-2021 after Britney called out Christina for refusing to talk about her freedom from her conservatorship.
She blasted the ‘Genie In A Bottle’ Singer on her Insta story after Christina dodged a question about Britney on a red carpet, writing, “I love and adore everyone who supported me… but refusing to speak when you know the truth is equivalent to a lie!!!!”

However Christina had taken to Twitter earlier that year to showcase her support for Britney alongside a throwback pic from their Disney days.
“To a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most, I promise you she deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life,” The singer wrote. “My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”
