People Are Turning Iconic Celebrity Moments Into Historical Artefacts & It’s Giving Me Oxygen
We are only three months into 2021 and I’m already calling it: this is the year’s best meme. In the last few weeks, images of celebrities or viral memes have been turned into historical artefacts and it’s just too good.
The format of the meme is simple: take an iconic celebrity photo or meme, filter it, make it black/white or sepia, then caption the image like it’s an archival photo of either a family member or historical figure.
The trend began back in March, with Twitter user @ctrlzahra posting this image of Cillian Murphy and Keira Knightley on the set of The Edge of Love.

In recent weeks, the meme has exploded online and the images people are using are getting more and more hilarious. While originally the meme was simply captioned that the people or person in the picture was the poster’s older relative, people have begun claiming that certain iconic images are depicting historical events.
It’s so stupid, but so damn funny. Here’s a roundup of some of the best!
