I Lived My Best ‘Emily In Paris’ Life In Literal France
Emily In Paris is back and better than ever, and by better, we of course mean, it’s a disaster but we can’t look away.
From the baffling script to the bizarre fashion/life choices made by our leading lass played by Lily Collins, Emily In Paris is the perfect show to mindlessly watch whether you love it or love to hate-watch it. But there’s one thing about the Netflix series that is just a fact: having Paris as the beautiful backdrop is the main reason the show is so appealing.
It ain’t called the City of Love for nothing and there really is nowhere like Paris. And thanks to Contiki, I was lucky enough to get to experience the French capital in 2022. I hopped on the tour operator’s European Magic trip which winds all the way from London to Paris.
It was in Paris that I decided what better way to see the sights than through the eyes of Emily Cooper.
Firstly, I already have Emily’s breakdown bangs (minus the breakdown) so I’m halfway there!
Although (humblebrag), I’ve had bangs since I was in high school so I’m actually ahead of Emily there.
The amazing part about Emily In Paris is that all the major locations featured are real locations in the centre of Paris. This makes visiting them all in one day a goddamn breeze.
So, I strapped on my ‘WWED’ (what would Emily do) bracelet and spent the day visiting as many locations from all three seasons of Emily In Paris as I could squeeze in.
I lived my best Emily In Paris life in literal France:
Emily’s Apartment
1 Place de l’Estrapade
Emily’s building is stunning and she happens to reside in the top floor with a gorgeous view of the Fontaine de la Place de l’Estrapade square. As expected, there was loads of tourists outside Emily’s building.
This whole area was super posh! Maybe I need to start working at a marketing agency in Paris?!
Gabriel’s Restaurant
Terra Nera
Across the street from Emily’s place is Gabriel’s restaurant, which is a very real restaurant called Terra Nera. The restaurant appears almost identical to its on-screen counterpart — you can’t miss it!
Fun fact: Next to the restaurant is the La Boulangerie Moderne where Emily tries a chocolate croissant in Season 1. The pastry shop was sadly closed when I was there later in the day, so if you want to nab yourself a tasty treat, I’d check the opening hours before stopping by.
The Pantheon
This is the location where Emily has an awkward phone call with her ex-boyfriend and it happens to be around the corner from her apartment. This historic building from the 1700s is spectacular, and literally in the middle of the quiet Parisian neighbourhood.
Mindy’s Fountain
Fontaine Saint-Michel
In Season 2, Mindy starts busking regularly in front of the Fontaine Saint-Michel: a gorgeous fountain in the heart of Paris. I visited the fountain but I could only really capture it up close because…
…the entire square becomes a Christmas market in December.
Sorry Mindy! No busking around the holidays for you and your trio!
The Ferris Wheel
Tuileries Garden
During Emily’s unemployment era, she has long lunches with her former work colleagues in front of the ferris wheel in the Tuileries Garden which is just near the Louvre. This is also where her and Alfie go for a ride, as in the series the ferris wheel is known for hosting sexual encounters while couples spin around its compartments. Raunchy!
During the warmer months, a carnival is held at the gardens called Fête des Tuileries which is where Emily plays on carnival rides while killing time without a job. However, as I was there in winter, there wasn’t much carnival action but still plenty of people around observing the gorgeous gardens.
Mindy’s Jazz Club
Noevelle Eve
Mindy gets an exciting new gig in Season 3 singing at a prestigious jazz club. The club in question is actually a historic cabaret theatre, Noevelle Eve, which still hosts nightly performances. I was lucky enough to get a tour of the charming venue which is just a few blocks away from the Moulin Rouge.
This theatre was stunning!
Until my next trip to Paris, I’m going to binge Emily In Paris and relive the magic!
