This ‘Farmer Wants A Wife’ Breakup Is Getting Very, Very Messy
Farmer Brenton and Sophie Holcombe’s breakup is getting very messy. The pair, who appeared to part ways on good terms, have now hinted that may not be the case at all.
Sophie and Farmer Brenton had a fairytale romance on Farmer Wants A Wife, and I seriously thought they were the real deal. After the finale aired, Sophie told fans on Instagram that meeting Brenton was “one of the best things” she’s ever done. Cute!

Earlier this month, Sophie announced they had broken up, saying that while she “loved” her life in Darriman, it was a “disappointing ending”. She potentially hinted at some underlying drama, by saying she “learnt a lot” about herself and her values, before wishing her ex all the best.
When Punkee reached out to Farmer Brenton, he echoed Sophie’s statement, saying that the couple were “still on good terms” and called his ex an “amazing person”.
Sophie Holcombe was “deeply hurt” by her breakup with Farmer Brenton.
Some fans have been accusing Sophie of not wanting to be in the relationship long-term, as she told producers she was keen to travel while on the show.
After receiving some nasty Instagram comments from FWAW fans, the social media manager has now shared a lengthy statement about what really happened between her and Farmer Brenton.
“I have kept quiet but the comments on this are horrible. I don’t want to travel, if I did I’d be doing it right now. I was forced by producers to bring this up. Also doesn’t every normal person want to go on a holiday once in their life?” she said.
“I grew up on a farm and saw my dad rarely take a holiday. My grandmas, mum and aunties are all farmers’ wives and set the best example of how to be a supporting and caring partner. I took this experience seriously. I was ready to find love.”
The reality TV contestant went on to say that there were plenty of things that happened behind closed doors, and while I’m desperate for answers, she kept her next statement vague.
“I lived with Brenton for over six months and went through a lot. I will never publicly share these details. But just know, I tried my absolute best to build a lifelong relationship. I loved him and I was deeply hurt by the situation,” she said. Yikes, this doesn’t sound like an amicable split at all.
Farmer Brenton appears to reply to Sophie Holcombe’s statement.
While Brenton hasn’t said anything publicly about Sophie’s lengthy statement, he did add an image to his Instagram story that could defs be taken as a response. It’s low-key childish, but maybe there’s more to this breakup than we know.
The farmer shared a photo of his face edited onto a body dodging gunfire, with three bullet holes in the wall behind him. The only thing he wrote was “dodging bullets”… I’m guessing this is his way of saying he’s glad the relationship is over?
Sophie breaks silence on her split with Farmer Brenton.
When Punkee approached Sophie for some more info about the split, she explained why she decided to share her side of the story on Instagram. Oh, and she also claimed that Brenton’s “dodging bullets” story was about her, which doesn’t come as a big surprise.
“I have been incredibly disappointed by the online commentary accusing me of never being serious about love or a life on the farm,” she told Punkee. “I was genuine from the moment I applied for Brenton. I settled in quickly to life in Darriman. I found a full-time job, joined the local netball club and loved helping out on the farm.”
“My dog was also having the time of his life and Brenton’s family welcomed me in like I was their own daughter. The breakup had absolutely nothing to do with me not wanting to live on the farm or wanting to go on a holiday. The adventurous storyline was produced simply to create controversy,” she said. “I would never have signed myself up for a show like this if I wasn’t willing to make a life-long commitment to both the farmer and the farm.”
Sophie also added that the breakup was mutual, and stated the pair wish nothing but the best for each other. She doesn’t have plans to leave Gippsland, and sees herself staying in regional Victoria for the foreseeable future.
As for Brenton’s “dodging bullets” Instagram story, the reality TV contestant took the high road and said: “It was about me but I’m not going to get into it. I am really proud of the statements I have made and I just want to move forward positively.”
Punkee has reached out to Brenton for comment, so there should be more tea coming…
