A ‘Friends’ Musical Parody Is Coming To Australia And Could We BE More Confused?

Has it not been your day, your week, your month, or even your year? Same. At times like these, we could all use some Friends.

If you’ve streamed the show to death, because nobody can escape Netflix during COVID-19 isolation, have no fear because there’s a musical parody coming to a city near you. And no, we’re not joking.

Introducing The Friends Musical Parody

Truth is, we have no idea what’s going on here. But, what we do know is that Friends! The Musical Parody is a thing and it’s coming to Australia in 2021. The musical has already hit New York and Las Vegas, which is fitting since they are two very important locations for the Friends gang, and now it’s coming down under.

The Aussie premiere will take place at The Star Gold Coast on February 11th, 2021 with shows in all of the major cities to follow.

“After auditioning hundreds of performers for these iconic roles we couldn’t be more thrilled with this incredibly talented cast who will be bringing our favourite friends to life on stage,” said producer Sam Klingner. “It’s almost a year since we started auditioning, so the cast, creatives and I simply cannot wait to get into the rehearsal room and take a trip back to the ’90s.”

What Can You Expect?

According to the press release, the plot of the show is similar to its pilot episode: “It’s a seemingly typical day in New York coffee shop, Central Perk, until an unexpected runaway bride enters the picture and kicks the whole gang out of second gear!”

“The musical plucks the best and most hilarious moments from the show’s 10-year run and recreates them through an uncensored, fast-paced music-filled romp.” Look, we don’t know how on earth they’re going to summarise over 200 episodes in an hour and a half, but we wish them the best of luck.

Who’s Involved?

Friends! The Musical Parody will be directed by Dash Kruck, with choreography by Cameron Mitchell, set and costume design by Frances Hannaway, lighting design by Jason Glenwright, and musical direction by Steven Kreamer.

In terms of the casting, Belinda Jenkin (50 Shades! The Musical Parody, Top Gun the Musical) will play Phoebe, Stefanie Jones (Muriel’s Wedding, The Sound of Music) will play Monica, Sarah Krndija (As You Like It, Sunday In The Park With George) will play Rachel. Joseph Spanti (Spring Awakening, Netflix’s Dive Club) will play Joey, Tyran Stig will play Ross, Rowan Witt (The Book of Mormon, South Pacific) will play Chandler, and Chris Huntly-Turner (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Merchant of Venice at Pop-up Globe) will play Gunther.
