We all fawned over G Flip’s relationship with Chrishell Stause on Selling Sunset, but did you know that the Aussie musician wasn’t supposed to have a cameo at all?

In an interview on Abbie Chatfield’s It’s A Lot podcast, G Flip revealed that they pushed back when producers asked them to be on the real estate show.

“I wasn’t meant to go on the show, I didn’t want to. Reality TV… those shows are fun to watch but I didn’t want to be a part of it,” G Flip told Abbie, saying that appearing on Selling Sunset seemed like a “weird” decision that “didn’t feel authentic”.

“I felt uncomfortable, me and Chrishell had just started dating and the producers were trying to get me on the show,” they said.

So what changed G Flip’s mind? Apparently, the couple had a chat about how their queer relationship and G Flip identifying as non-binary could be really important for people watching the show.

The musician decided they could use the chance to provide audiences with “healthy queer relationships” in the media, but on one condition: they didn’t want to go to a “dramatic dinner”, and instead wanted to be in some low-key scenes with Chrishell. And tbh, the wholesome scenes that showed how their relationship ~just worked~ were some of the best moments of the show.

“I did a couple of episodes… we filmed more episodes but we were obviously too boring because we got along too well,” G Flip said. Side note: hey Netflix – can you pls release the tapes? I want the deleted scenes!

Did fans criticise G Flip and Chrishell Stause’s relationship?

The pair, who tied the knot earlier this year, knew they’d have to brace themselves for some nasty backlash.

“Me and Chrishell knew that going in. We knew we’d get heaps of hate,” G Flip said. “They get in my DMs, they send me comments being like, ‘You’re a woman!’.”

Although this was Chrishell’s first queer relationship, G Flip couldn’t be prouder of the way she handled the heat. “[Chrishell’s] a legend, she took a lot and spoke on behalf of me and non-binary people to try and help educate the audience, [who are] not so familiar with it… she’s a rockstar,” the musician said.

When did G Flip and Chrishell Stause’s relationship get serious?

G Flip got candid with Abbie about how their relationship was casual at first, and in the back of their mind, the singer expected Chrishell to go and find a man to settle down with. In fact, Chrishell was supposed to start a new reality show, similar to The Bachelor.

“We weren’t meant to fall in love, basically… We were very casually dating and I wasn’t looking for anything serious at the time, she was trying to find a man to have babies with, but we kept hanging out and we kept falling in love… it just didn’t stop,” they said.

The Aussie star finally broke down (after going to MovieWorld, so romantic) and told Chrishell they didn’t want her to go on the show, and the two finally found their *Happily Ever After*. Cute!

Are G Flip and Chrishell Stause planning on having children?

Some fans were up in arms when Chrishell ended up with G Flip, since she broke up with Jason Oppenheim to find someone to have babies with. But news flash, it’s 2023, and there are so many different ways to have kids. And yes, G Flip and Chrishell are planning on adding to their family.

“With a queer relationship there’s so many options. You don’t necessarily have to be the bearer of the kids. We’ve been talking about adoption, surrogacy, [and] getting a donor involved,” G Flip told Abbie.

“I think me and Chrishell want to [use a donor] that we know, because she’s told me she’s looked into [sperm banks] and that’s been a bit scary,” they admitted.

G Flip shared that they have total confidence in parenting, particularly when doing it with Chrishell. “Me and Chrishell having little nuggets [kids] will be cute as,” they said. “And she’ll be such a good mum.”

Did G Flip have gender dysphoria growing up?

The Aussie musician also touched on how they didn’t understand their gender while growing up, and attending strict Catholic schools didn’t help. While G Flip thought there was a chance they were queer, they didn’t voice this to anybody for fear of being “ostracised”.

“I’ve had gender dysphoria my whole entire life, and not understood my gender. Especially thinking about when I was a kid, I used to look in the mirror and be like, ‘What are you? You are a boy, but you are a girl…you’re a girl, but you have boy brain in you,” they told Abbie.

“When I started learning and educating myself on what it means to be non-binary, I was like, holy s**t.”

Was it scary for G Flip to come out as non-binary?

G Flip wanted to come out and tell the world, but made sure to do plenty of prep work before. They were worried about making a mistake that would be dissected by journalists, fans and haters.

“When I felt ready to tell the world, I put something on Instagram,” they said. “I was scared because I felt like I was going to then have to be a voice for the non-binary community, and I wanted to make sure I was ready for that.”

“I tried to read so many things and learn the language and prep myself, because I didn’t wanna f**k up the wording or say the wrong thing.”

Fingers crossed G Flip makes another Selling Sunset cameo when the show returns for Season 7!
