Guess who’s back in the house? Gossip Girl, bitches.

Nine years after the original series ended, Gossip Girl has been brought back to life and this time, she’s on Instagram. Scrolling is no longer safe! The first episode that premiered last night introduced us to a new bunch of young, popular and privileged teens enrolled at the boys and girls prestigious Manhattan private schools.

Unlike the 2007 series, the identity of Gossip Girl was revealed at the beginning of the series. If you don’t want this spoiled, now is the time to exit this article.

In a surprise twist, the rebooted series is told from the perspective of the teachers, more specifically English teacher Kate (Tavi Gevinson), who decides to resurrect Gossip Girl in a desperate attempt to bring the students back in line.

You see, in the new Gossip Girl, the students don’t respect the teacher’s authority, so upon finding out about Gossip Girl’s part in manipulating the lives of past students — Serena, Nate, Blair, and Chuck — the teachers feel inspired to start an Instagram page dedicated to spreading gossip about the popular crew, led by Julien.

This revelation is rather problematic. The teachers are, after all, adults who are publishing damaging rumours about a bunch of teens online. But putting that aside, the series is still extremely watchable. In the premiere episode, Julien’s half-sister, Zoya, enrolled at Constance, igniting a rivalry between the siblings, especially as Zoya grows closer to Julien’s current squeeze, Obie. Scandalous!

Gossip Girl’s identity may have changed, but the series is still filled with nonstop drama, amazing fashion, and much more sex than I ever had in high school.
