The 5 Most Iconic ‘Home And Away’ Couples, Ranked

Home and Away’s most recent promo is focused on Leah Patterson and Justin Morgan’s rocky relationship after they were *checks notes* kidnapped by an evil cult. It’s not like they were peachy before the whole cult issue, because last year, Leah was impaled by a metal pole and also kidnapped by Marilyn Chambers’ secret daughter. She doesn’t have the best track record, it’s a whole thing.

Anyway, in one of the newest promos, the producers have touted Leah and Justin’s relationship as Summer Bay’s “greatest love story”, and I have a few thoughts on this matter. To quote Kelly Kapoor, how DARE you. Leah and Justin aren’t remotely close to being Home and Away’s best couple. In fact, I wouldn’t even put them in the top five.

I get that Channel Seven is trying to add some mystery surrounding their upcoming wedding, but we’ve all seen the spoilers, we’re pretty sure they’re gonna tie the knot. (And in that case, RIP Justin, it was nice knowing you.)

It’s a topic of hot debate, but I’ve scrolled back through the Home and Away archives and here are my all-time fave couples. Most of them don’t have happy endings, but that’s what happens when you live in a death trap like Summer Bay.

Home and Away’s most iconic couples ranked:

5. Ziggy Astoni and Dean Thompson

Nabbing fifth place is real-life and onscreen couple Ziggy and Dean, affectionately known as Diggy. It’s not the best couple name. They had a few hiccups along the way (Ziggy randomly got with Tane while Dean explored a relo with his baby mama Amber), but their chemistry was too good to ignore. Diggy departed the soap in March 2023, and for once, nobody died, cheated or mysteriously vanished. You know what that means… the door has been left wide open for their return.

Plus, their storyline helped actors Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor get together in real life, so thank you Home and Away for giving us one of the most wholesome Aussie celeb couples, like, ever.

4. Indi Walker and Romeo Smith

Indi and Romeo didn’t have the smoothest relationship in Summer Bay. They were torn apart more times than I can count, but I’m convinced they were actually soulmates. Played by Samara Weaving and Luke Mitchell, the couple had a beautiful wedding in Hawaii. After getting over cheating scandals and Ruby’s fake pregnancy, everything finally began to look up for the pair… until Romeo got skin cancer. Instead of communicating clearly and telling his wife, he ditched Summer Bay so he could die offscreen. Poor Indi.

3. Belle Taylor and Aden Jefferies

Belle and Aden’s relationship wasn’t easy. Aden suffered a breakdown, there was a love triangle between Aden, Belle and Angelo, and Belle had to get through a painkiller addiction. Their relo was also cut short by the dreaded C-word, with Aden only hearing about Belle’s cancer diagnosis days before the wedding. Just four weeks after they tied the knot, Belle said goodbye to all her friends, before dying in Aden’s arms.

2. Darryl ‘Brax’ Braxton and Ricky Sharpe, but also Brax and Charlie Buxton

Brax is one of the most popular Home and Away characters ever, and I feel like this was the golden era of the soap. Ricky and Brax had a tumultuous relationship, which resulted in baby Casey (named after his dead brother) before Brax faked his own death – without telling Ricky. Ugh. The pair got a happy ending though, after Brax came back and they left Summer Bay with their son.

Before Ricky, though, was Brax and Charlie: a love story so epic that I was fully invested. A hardened criminal playing with fire by falling for a cop? It sounds like a cliché, but the producers did it so well. Sadly, after Charlie killed Hammer while on duty, his brother Jake carried out his revenge by sending Charlie to an early grave.

1. Shane and Angel Parrish

Even though Shane and Angel’s relationship took place back in the ‘90s, fans are still obsessed with them. So, with that in mind, I’ve popped them in at the top of the list. During their wedding, Angel, who had been paralysed in a car accident, managed to push her wheelchair away and walk down the aisle. Believable? No, not at all. But it was definitely romantic.

In the most devastating turn of events, Shane suddenly died… due to a tiny cut? He was rushed to hospital and treated for sepsis, but they didn’t get there in time. Angel eventually found love again with Simon and moved to England to start a new life.
