A Very Serious Petition To Bring “Rack Off” Back Into Our Vocabulary

A video of past Home and Away clips has been doing the rounds on TikTok and I’m absolutely delighted. The show has been on for almost 36 years, so there have been some questionable storylines and catchphrases that have made it on our screens.

Sure, we all know Alf Stewart’s famous “Flamin’ Galah” or “Strewth” and Irene’s overuse of “Darl”, but I’m starting a petition to bring back a classic Aussie insult that will cut you to the bone.

Here’s the TikTok that has been watched over 633,000 times:

Yep, it’s a compilation of our fave Aussie characters telling each other to “rack off”.

It’s like the ~slightly~ more polite version of “fuck off”, but I can’t get over how seriously the phrase is taken. Also, the Aussie accent makes it kinda sound more like “rack awwff” which just adds to the charm.

I know you don’t want a history lesson, but how on earth did we get blessed with such a perfect insult? Well, “rack” is slang for a motorbike. The insult seems to stem from telling someone to “get on yer bike” and leave – turning into “rack off” over the years.

It’s not the only Aussie show to use the insult, with the original Heartbreak High and The Secret Life Of Us writers also being fans of a cheeky “rack off”.

Fans go wild over Home and Away’s “rack off” compilation.

I’m not the only one attempting to bring this golden piece of slang back into our everyday language, with a bunch of Aussies flooding the TikTok’s comment section.

“I’ve never heard this before this clip but by golly I will be saying it forevermore,” one person wrote.

“My dad still says ‘rack off’ to the dogs,” another added.

“I’m gonna start using this from now on and anyone who says I can’t, can just rack off,” a third chimed in.

“Racken rack off ya racken rackwit,” another wrote.

And I’ll sign off with this last, golden comment: “I say rack off to my four-year-old every day”. Inspiring stuff.
