House of Dragon continues to make us forget the torment Game of Thrones put us through with another excellent episode.

On the latest instalment, freshly named heir Rhaenyra attempted to find her voice under King Viserys’ reign, as Daemon caused chaos at Dragonstone by holding a dragon egg hostage. Viserys was a little distracted though, as he needs to find a new wife to replace the wife that died last week, and he has two literal children to choose from. Are you keeping up?

The opening credits are a huge Game of Thrones throwback, with the same music and the camera panning across a map of the kingdoms, but in the case of House of Dragon, it scans a model of Old Valyria.

The episode begins with a man being eaten alive by crabs at Stepstones, a chain of islands which has been overtaken by bloodthirsty pirates.

Rhaenys and Corlys propose that King Viserys should marry their literal child, Laena, in an effort to unify the Targaryen and Valyrian houses.

After Rhaenyra starts to grow impatient with her lack of involvement in decision-making, Viserys allows her to choose a Kingsguard commander, and she chooses (her low-key crush) Ser Criston Cole.

Recently exiled brother Daemon is stirring up drama in Dragonstone. He sends a letter to the King, telling him he will marry a second wife to bear his child, an heir who will share their cradle with a dragon’s egg he stole. Cheeky!

Viserys sends his army to retrieve the dragon egg, but they fail as Daemon has his own dragon, Caraxes, to frighten them away. However, Rhaenyra bursts through the clouds riding Syrax and she manages to convince Daemon to return the egg. Queen shit.

Viserys leaves his small council shook when he decides to marry Alicent Hightower, his daughter Rhaenyra’s bestie.

Viserys’ refusal to marry Corlys’ literal child leaves him furious, so he flees King’s Landing to join forces with Daemon in Dragonstone. The episode concludes with an image of a masked man, who is presumedly pirate king Crabfeeder, a mysterious figure amassing power in the Stepstones islands.
