The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is almost here, and I could not be MORE excited. It’s a film based on Suzanne Collins’ prequel to The Hunger Games, starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Peter Dinklage, Josh Andrés Rivera and Viola Davis.

Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, the cast has been busy promoting the film, but there’s been an extremely strange photo that emerged from the set.

The photo in question has Rachel Zegler – as the main character Lucy Gray Baird – singing a duet with a dirty rubber chicken. Did I mention the chicken is wearing tiny overalls?!

Fans have gone wild trying to figure out why on earth a rubber chicken on a pole was spotted singing with Rachel, who is in full costume and makeup.

Is the film actually The Ballad of Songbirds & Chickens? Is this rubber chicken the real star of the film? What’s the chicken’s name, and does Lucy Gray Baird fall in love with it?

Here are the best reactions to the candid shots of Rachel Zegler and her rubber chicken pal.

Why was Rachel Zegler posing with a rubber chicken on the set of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes?

Turns out that this little rubber chicken isn’t making a debut on the big screen, and there’s a reason it was dressed up in tiny overalls. Apparently, the props department has a fun tradition where they take photos with the rubber chicken on every film they work on.

Rachel shared two more photos of herself with the rubber chicken on X and told fans: “Our props team have the actors/directors of every film they work on post for a photo with this rubber chicken (which they dress in theme of the film in question) – of course I said yes! Anything for our crew!”

Can someone get Rachel an audition for the next Muppet movie?

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes comes out in cinemas on Thursday, November 16.
