Cath And Kel Share Their Biggest Regret From ‘Hunted’
Season 2 of Hunted Australia kicked off this week with a bang, with many of the fugitives finding themselves in some sticky situations.
Cath and Kel (not to be confused with iconic duo Kath and Kim), were caught at the end of the episode, even though they went undetected for a couple of days. Sadly, it was their confidence and cheeky nature that led to their downfall, after the pair’s Where’s Wally snap on Facebook gave away some vital clues.
The hunters blocked off Cath and Kel’s escape routes as they hunkered down in a friend’s house, but were caught almost immediately when they tried to make a run for it.
I’m low-key disappointed, because the boujee fugitives had planned to use their friends’ yachts, luxury cars and holiday homes, which sounded like so much fun.
Punkee spoke to Cath and Kel about their short experience on the TV show Hunted, explain why they didn’t split up, and what they regret:
The below interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.
Cath and Kel on what it felt like when the hunters surrounded their house:
Cath: “We thought we wouldn’t get too jumpy or scared or anxious. And funnily enough, we did. So in that moment, where you see that we are captured. You think you would just run and get out of there, but for some reason, we both just froze. We couldn’t move.”
Kel: “There was that moment where your heart is in your throat and your gut goes really hard. In that heartbeat, you know, bang. We were both standing there kind of looking at each other frozen and for quite a long time before we actually could think about what’s next.”
Cath: “We kept them at bay for about an hour and a half down there, it was really hot, so we made them suffer.”
Kel: “We had no way out, unless we scrambled across the roof which we weren’t going to do. We thought due to our life experience we’d be quite rational, but there’s no telling how you’re going to be in the moment.”
Cath and Kel on how they prepared for the show:
Kel: “We planned to fly underneath the radar digitally so we’d stand a better chance. We also roped a few mates in to make sure that we’d have somewhere to stay. So we had a good network. It felt like we were preparing for months.”
Cath: “We had lots of people lined up to help us. We thought we’d cleaned our phones as well as people who have no tech savviness can, clearly not very well.”
Cath and Kel on if they regret taunting the hunters:
Kel: “We were a bit too confident and we decided to taunt. I don’t regret sending the Where’s Wally picture, I thought it was funny and cute. I’m sure that lots of people will be calling us Wally’s today undoubtedly, I guess we signed up for that! We thought it was hilarious, but I do regret doing it so early. Perhaps we should’ve held off a little bit longer.”
Cath and Kel on if they’d planned on splitting up:
Kel: “We had talked about splitting up and I was fine with it, but Cath wasn’t so keen.”
Cath: “I think that half of the fun of doing this was doing it with a friend. The idea of being on your own and on the run really didn’t appeal to me. I think in our heart of hearts Kel and I both knew we weren’t going to win the $100,000, but we thought we’d last a little bit longer than we did. The reason we did this was to do it together and have a good laugh and we certainly did that.”
Cath and Kel on how it feels to be the first fugitives caught:
Kel: “Like big old losers. Actually, we can reframe it so we’re winners, because we were the first to be caught.”
Cath: “Of course we’re disappointed. But, watching just one episode was so hard. My stomach was clenched up and I don’t think I could do that for 11 episodes, so I’m kind of glad that I can just relax and watch the show now.”
