A week ago you may never have heard the name James Charles but by now it’s likely that he is the only person in this world that you care about.

Last weekend tension between YouTubers and ex-BFFs James Charles and Tati Westbrook boiled over. The TL;DR basically is that Tati was offended that James promoted a rival vitamin brand which she saw as a betrayal. This led to Tati posting a long video listing all her issues with him, which included allegations of predatory behaviour.

James has since lost nearly three million subscribers, which is basically unheard of up until now, and many high profile celebrities like Miley Cyrus and the entire Kardashian fam, have unfollowed him.

Here is everything that has gone down since Tati’s ‘Bye Sister’ video blew up!

What has happened since Tati’s video and James’ apology?

Oh boy, so there have been many men that have come forward to share their experiences with James, starting with the waiter, Sam Cooke, who was mentioned in Tati’s video.

Here Sam shared his side:

The waiter’s video contradicted a lot of what Tati said about the exchange. He said that he actually reached out to James, sliding into his DMs.

Sam said he initially told James that he was bi-curious at the time but after spending time with the YouTube star and sharing a kiss, he eventually told Charles he was straight which lead to this tense text exchange.

Then, Jeffree Star made his feelings known, in a now-deleted tweet.

And singer Zara Larsson backed up what Tati said, posting this then quickly deleting it.

In the days following Tati’s first video, model Jay Alvarez posted on Instagram a convo he shared with James which he captioned “People give this kid too much props. He got no game.”

Several other men have posted their experiences with James on Twitter.

And of course, we have the video from Gage, the guy that James flew to Coachella and then called a “con artist” on Twitter after he said he wasn’t interested.

Gage’s recount of his experience with James is pretty disturbing:

The video includes loads of texts sent back and forth.

Who is defending James?

In terms of Tati’s claims that James was lying when he said he only did a post for SugarBearHair because they helped him out at Coachella, fellow beauty YouTuber Nikita Dragun has backed James up and she has receipts.

She shared their convo which appears to show that James did indeed get help from SugarBear which turned into him agreeing to do a post for them.

Another one of James’ Insta-famous friends Gabriel Zamora (who is also Nikita’s BFF) has come for Tati in a big way, saying “You’re omitting information. You’re a fraud, Tati Westbrook!” in a rant posted on Snapchat.

Before this, umm, weirdly Pewdiepie has also came to James’ defence, but we’ll take that with a grain of salt.

Is James okay?

As with any time a celebrity is cancelled and becomes the target of immense online bullying, there are obvious concerns for James’ mental health. Since posting his apology, James has been silent across all social media platforms.

Beloved YouTuber Shane Dawson didn’t pick a side in the petty feud and instead has been the voice of reason in all this, posting this to Twitter:

Tati herself has posted a follow-up video and says she was shocked with the reaction to her original clip, saying she assumed she would have lost followers rather than James.

She explained why she made the video, saying “It was me trying to reach someone who I found completely unreachable.” Ultimately Tati now wants people to stop abusing James, telling her followers: “I do want the hate to stop.”

Hopefully from here we can all move forward and maybe, just maybe, go back to talking about makeup.
