Tried And Tested: Does This Cult Fave Eyeliner Pen Live Up To The Hype?
I simply can’t resist eyeliner pens. After years of trying my best to embrace eyeliner pencils, liquids, and creams, all it took was for me to try one eyeliner pen when I was 20 years old and I was hooked forever.
This doesn’t mean that I’ve invested in any particularly good brands. In fact, I was using an eyeliner pen I got from Malaysia for about $3 for most of my young adult life. This eyeliner pen was amazing. That pen outlived my romantic relationships, my attempt to be an anthropologist, and my obsession with dressing my cats up as tropical fruit.
But alas, most love stories must come to an end. My $3 eyeliner pen finally dried up about three years ago and I’ve been searching endlessly for a replacement for him it. I’ve tried many different pens, but none have been quite right for me. I even went through an eyeliner stamp phase just to feel something.
This led me to trialling arguably the most hyped eyeliner pen ever: KVD Beauty’s Tattoo Liner. It’s so wildly popular that one pen is sold every 30 seconds globally.
Makeup stans love this pen and it helps that all of KVD’s products are vegan and cruelty-free. Fans swear by the lasting power of this product so intensely that one dedicated reviewer posted a testimonial that the eyeliner lasted through a car accident. Alrighty then!

Now THAT is dedication.
I tested out the product in brown because err, well… influencer Molly-Mae Hague swears by brown mascara and eyeliner for a more natural look and I will do anything she says. That being said, I wouldn’t say this eyeliner is super brown, more like a very dark brown/light black.
The first thing worth testing is how the product applies to skin and whether the thickness of the line can be controlled. So far, so good! I could draw a thin line, or by putting more pressure draw a thicker line if I wanted to bring some drama to my look.
If I wanted the line as dark as my soul and as sharp as my tongue, I can opt for a double line and also double as one of The Veronicas. Nifty!
I was impressed by the brush which was quite different to what I’ve used before: it was long, feathered, and precise.
But now the big test: how does KVD’s eyeliner pen fare when trying to attempt a cat eye? As it turns out, pretty good!
While makeup experts might not think this attempt is anything special, I’m notoriously awful at cat eyes, so this is personally something worth celebrating.
And this photo was taken about three hours after I first applied it. The eyeliner stayed put for about six hours in total before I removed my makeup.
I will say that while the product applied like a goddamn dream when I first opened the pen, after a week or two, the pen wasn’t quite as precise. But tbh that’s to be expected and it still slid on extremely easy.
What I didn’t expect to love about this product was that while it stays on for hours without budging, it’s also super easy to rub off if you’re one of those people who stuff up their cat eye flick on the first try aka every person on this earth. With a name like “tattoo liner”, I assumed it wouldn’t be remove, but I did so with just my finger — no makeup remover necessary!
Overall, I’m a fan! Hopefully this pen will last me until I’m in my 40s, or else I think it’s time to go back to Malaysia to reunite with my first and greatest love.
