Kath & Kim fans have slammed the special one-off Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life episode, and some of the complaints were brutal.

The legendary comedy made a comeback to Aussie TVs last night, with Gina Riley and Jane Turner reprising their roles as the hilarious mother-daughter duo for the 20th anniversary.

To join in the celebrations, Kath & Kim OG’s Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins, and Peter Rowsthorn also reprised their roles as Sharon Strzelecki, Kel Knight and Brett Craig for the special episode.

Kath and Kim 20th anniversary revival first looks final drop

When the show’s return to TV was first announced, many fans assumed that the anniversary would be a whole new episode with new content, similar to other spin-offs like Da Kath & Kim Code and Kath & Kimdrella.

The promos also previewed a bunch of fresh looks from the foxy ladies of Fountain Lakes.

Instead of a new episode, Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life featured a variety of celebrities who were interviewed on the show’s overall cultural impact and its most memorable moments.

Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life did include a few new clips that featured Kath, Kim, Sharon, Kel, Brett and Marion (the eccentric marriage counsellor played by Marg Downey) in the present.

But as the majority of the special episode was a loving trip down memory lane, a lot of fans expressed their disappointment online.

Other Kath & Kim fans have defended the decision to make the revival a recap show, arguing that actors Gina and Jane didn’t have to do anything for the 20th anniversary, and low-key, we agree.

We’re thankful for one drop of new Kath & Kim content!

As fans either bash or defend Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life, we think there’s one thing that everyone can agree to hate on: the damn green screen was a disaster.

Fans on both sides have dragged the show for the use of a green screen, which they had to use after the OG house was demolished by the owners.

Although some Kath & Kim fans might be disappointed, there’s another instalment coming with part two airing tonight, titled Kath & Kim: 20 Preposterous Years.

So let’s crack open the Tia Maria one more time and give the reunion another shot!

Kath & Kim: 20 Preposterous Years premiers tonight at 7:30pm on Channel 7 and 7Plus.
