What Lauren, Jono And Ellie Have Said About Each Other Since The MAFS Reunion
I have never seen two seemingly sweet characters fall so quickly from grace in a single episode of this show until Jono and Ellie waltzed into the MAFS reunion dinner party as a full-blown couple.
Lauren laughed. Sara’s mouth opened to biologically impossible lengths in shock. And Jayden was so surprised he leapt off the couch, blowing his own corsage off into the wind. It was incredibly dramatic, and, of course, exactly what we expected from the reunion of this truly cooked show.
In case you need a refresher, Lauren and Jono were matched by the experts and got married at first sight. They completed the experiment together until final vows, but just before that their relationship blew up on account of Lauren finding out that Jono had been texting Ellie – another bride who had left the show – on a near-daily basis.
Lauren claims that she had “woman’s intuition” about Jono and Ellie, and despite there being no explicit messages between them, Lauren knew there was something more at play. Jono denied it, saying that there was nothing between them and Ellie wasn’t “his type”. But what do you know… four weeks after Jono and Lauren ‘broke up’ at final vows, Jono and Ellie rocked up to the reunion as boyfriend and girlfriend.
While the dinner party was explosive, and the final session on the couch looks just as spicy, what have this troublesome threesome said about the whole palava since? I’ve rounded up all their quotes so you can cosy into the chaos.
“I felt like an absolute idiot when they walked in,” Lauren told Pedestrian in an interview since the episode aired. “Then when they had the support of the group, besides like Timothy and Sara, so blatantly rubbing it in front of my face, I was quite embarrassed.”
Apparently, this whole awkwardness was then made more uncomfortable when Lauren realised almost the entire cast knew that Jono and Ellie had gotten together.
“I’m annoyed because I’ve since found out that the majority of the cast knew about it and not one single person thought they should just send me a text and maybe let me know that this was happening,” Lauren said.
Of course, the main blame still sits on Lauren’s ex-husband to have updated her, with Lauren still fuming that “Jono didn’t even slip me a text to give me the heads-up.”
Despite that fumble from Jono, Lauren said that after the dinner party, she had a solid chat with her ex and his new girlfriend.
“After that all happened, and me and Jono had words, we actually had a good night together,” she told Pedestrian. “Every time you see them laughing, it’s because of me. Like Jono and Ellie were in stitches laughing all night because I was making them laugh because I’m funny. I don’t think they’ve laughed that much together so when they finally get to see me they were having a laugh.
“They made it a little bit more sinister but we actually all end up having a good night and we actually could talk about that with the experts on the couch the next day.”
Jono and Ellie have been fairly vocal since their departure too, and are clearly itching to debut their relationship to the wider world after dating semi-privately for the last five months. The couple went on the Today show this morning to give their perspective on the ‘cheating scandal’.
When asked if she deliberately avoided Lauren when she walked into the dinner party, Ellie said, “We went in last and everyone jumped up from the couches to hug us and were really excited for us and so I just didn’t get the time to say hello to Lauren. I also didn’t hear her, and so I do apologise to her for not saying hello.”
And, according to the happy couple, the reunion dinner party wasn’t as frosty as it looked. “Everyone loved it!” exclaimed Ellie on the Today show. “People were so happy for us – they literally jumped over couches to congratulate us,” Jono said. “But it wasn’t really shown like that, it looked a lot much more awkward than it was.”
Jono and Ellie confirmed on the show that they’ve gone on a bunch of holidays together already and that they’ve already moved in together. I guess after being on a show that makes you move at break-neck speed in a relationship, you speed through the milestones faster.
When pressed about why Jono was texting Ellie in the first place while he was in the thick of the experiment with Lauren, Jono served up a bit of a final jab to his ex-wife. He said he texted a lot of the cast because “I had a lot of spare time because Lauren wouldn’t talk to me.”
