Spoiler Alert: There’s Going To Be A Same-Sex Intruder Couple On This Season Of MAFS

The upcoming season of MAFS was supposed to showcase “more diversity” and be “freshened up”, with the key piece of the puzzle being a same-sex couple. We haven’t seen a same-sex couple on the show since 2020, when Amanda Micallef and Tash Herz tied the knot, so it’s long overdue.

Groom Simon Flocco was set to tie the knot with another groom, Michael, but viewers won’t get to see their relo develop. According to The Daily Mail, Simon got cold feet and fled to Europe before the wedding.

The source adds that Simon completely “ruined” producers’ plans for “more diversity”, and the show won’t feature him in it at all.

“It’s complete and utter chaos! Simon leaving was a blindside. Everyone’s been running around like headless chickens trying to salvage the situation,” a production insider claimed.

Another source, close to Simon, said that he was having doubts long before filming started.

“He kept having doubts, expressing his discomfort… producers, hungry for a groundbreaking narrative, persuaded him to stick around. That’s why he was at the bucks,” they said. “He kept telling them that he didn’t feel comfortable about certain things but was eventually talked into staying.”

Runaway groom Simon Flocco speaks out about his decision to leave MAFS

Simon told The Daily Mail that he did feel some guilt about leaving his potential husband, but made his decision to leave based on his gut instinct.

MAFS wasn’t what I thought I wanted at this point in my life, that’s all. I just felt bad for whoever they set me up with. I did initially leave, but they managed to coax me back… I gotta look out for myself,” he told the publication.

The runaway groom headed away for a European vacay straight after ditching the Channel 9 show and photos on Instagram show him having the absolute time of his life.

Trading drama-filled dinner parties that go until the early hours of the morning, for a sun-soaked getaway in Florence, Italy? I think we all know that Simon has made the right choice. While I’d love to see two gay grooms tie the knot on MAFS, it’d defs be more authentic if they both wanted to be there.

So there’s going to be no same-sex couple on MAFS this year?

It was originally reported that producers were desperately trying to fix the situation after Simon left and thought about bringing in a “standby” groom for Michael. In the end, they decided that it just wasn’t to be. “After the whole runaway groom incident, the production team was in crisis mode. They even considered bringing in a substitute groom for Michael,” the source said. “He was kept on standby, hopeful and anxious.”

But new paparazzi pictures and an ‘exclusive’ with the Daily Mail have spoiled a plot twist in this coming season of Married at First Sight. Photos show an ‘intruder’ couple arriving mid way through the series, rocking up to a dinner party to ruffle feathers. That couple appears to be Michael and a new groom.

“Despite reports the gay storyline will be scrapped, Michael will be entering the show as an intruder alongside two other couples. According to sources on set, the pair will be enter the show’s dinner party as a last-minute surprise,” the Daily Mail reported.

It seems, unless paps missed a MAFS wedding (which rarely happens), that this couple secretly married in front of family and friends without any of the cast attending their wedding – adding to the shock factor of their dinner party rock-up.
