Melinda From ‘MAFS’ Has Called Rumours About Her Layton Breakup “Sexist And Rude”

Melinda and Layton from MAFS announced their breakup last week. I had an inkling this was the way it was going to play out, but I had hope for the couple who, while a bit fiery, seemed genuine and well-suited.

In the days following Melinda and Layton’s joint statement, rumours have been flying around about the pair. Yahoo Lifestyle reported that a friend of the couple said their relationship had “fizzled out” and that the couple “barely saw each other”. While this got picked up by a number of news outlets (not us, I promise), Melinda has now set the record straight.

“I think it’s time to address a few articles and podcasts in regards to the Mel and Layton breakup,” she said on her Instagram story. “First of all, if you’re gonna be a source of information, please put your name to it. Don’t hide behind articles and press.”

She went on to say the pair don’t share any mutual friends – so if somebody is claiming to be a friend of the couple, it’s probably not true. “When you say that you’re ‘friends of a friend of a friend’, like, it’s already for the bin.”

Did MAFS’ Melinda and Layton’s relationship “fizzle out”?

Melinda also dismissed rumours that the pair’s relationship had “fizzled out”, saying that the couple were really good post-MAFS. “We were so strong after the show and there was absolutely no ‘fizzle out’ at any stage with me and Layton. We were guns blazing the whole way.”

“Saying we ‘hardly saw each other’ because we had businesses and that, we saw each other every single week for two weeks, and four to 10 days in a row. We travelled together, we have a phone full of memories and a phone full of dates that show that we saw each other so, so much.”

She added that it was strange members of the cast had changed their tune on their relationship, seeing as they were lauded as the most “real” couple from Season 10. “Now, because we’ve had a few feuds, we were ‘faking it the whole time’ and it was ‘never gonna last’, and we ‘don’t really like each other’. You’re boring.”

Was Melinda and Layton’s post-MAFS relationship a publicity stunt?

The CEO doesn’t like it when fans accuse Melinda of using her relationship with Layton for publicity. In fact, she thinks it’s “insensitive [and] rude”.

“When articles come out talking… saying, ‘Oh they’ve got a publicity stunt for 12 months’, that’s part of the reason I don’t talk to Ev and that anymore… We are literally a few days fresh into a breakup. No one else’s business to comment.”

“[As a] MAFS couple, I can tell you how much we made: $0. We never did a collab together, we never did a paid media together, we’re not the couple that was doing all of that media publicity, selling stories, collaborations together… I don’t know who they’re referring to, but it’s definitely not us.”

The couple do have a standard contract with Channel Nine, which every contestant has, but this has nothing to do with their relationship. “When you say that our contract is up, it’s not up until next year,” she said. “And even when the contract ends, what is that about? That is just a contract with Channel Nine.”

Did Melinda go on MAFS to promote her business?

Melinda has her own beauty business and recently opened a salon in Queensland called Melly’s Beauty Parlour. There’s been a bunch of viewers claiming that Melinda only went on the show to get publicity for her company, but she’s not pleased with this theory.

“Highly predictable, super lame in my eyes [and] super sexist… [Layton] also had a business too, but no one goes at him for that, do they? Because females can’t do a business on their own without a TV show.”

She also reminded fans that she’d been running her business for four years and that she was already “super successful”.

I wonder if it’s just Melinda that’s been having a hard time with the rumours floating around, or if we’ll hear anything from Layton about the whole situation soon. Either way, it’s always sad when a MAFS couple bites the dust.
