‘MAFS’ Kicked Off In A Spectacularly Dramatic Fashion And We’re Dying
Married at First Sight is back, baby, and the first episode was goddamn EXPLOSIVE!
We met all the singles looking for love in the premiere episode but one couple’s picture-perfect wedding got off to a rocky start when the groom’s lies started unravelling right in front of him.
Harrison, a single dad from Sydney was matched with Bronte, a stunning beauty educator from WA, and things looked pretty promising as the two exchanged vows, even though we (as an audience) had previously learned Harrison has an ego the size of the Pacific Ocean and thinks he’s the best looking man on earth.

However, Bronte’s friend Jessica was quick to pull her aside during the reception and fill her in on the fact that Harrison may not be the nice guy he was portraying.
So where did it all go wrong?
Here’s a timeline of what exactly happened between Bronte and Harrison on the premiere episode of Married At First Sight.
Never trust a man who sprays cologne on his head, I say!
Harrison put about as much cologne on his neck as I do Mortien on a cockroach. The parallels are astounding #MAFS

The buildup & the wedding
Before Bronte had made it down the aisle, her sister had reservations after meeting Harrison. “You’re a lucky man,” Bronte’s sister told him. “She’s not doing too badly herself,” he replied.
As Harrison got prepared to walk into the ceremony, he offered these words to us. “I know I’m a catch,” he said. “And I know any girl would be lucky to walk down the aisle to me.” OK, hun!

But upon meeting his bride, Harrison seemed to be the one falling hard and fast. “Bronte legitimately blew me away. She’s absolutely stunning. I felt all the air leave my body, and I had to remind myself to breathe,” Harrison said.
If only Damien from The Bachelors was there to coach him through it.
“He seems like he doesn’t have an issue showing his vulnerability,” Bronte said upon meeting her new husband, and the two happily walked hand-in-hand down the aisle.
But there was one familiar face that wasn’t happy: you may or may not recognise Jessica from The Bachelors (if you don’t, don’t worry — she got about three seconds of screen time) but she is apparently one of Bronte’s good friends.
“As soon as I saw Harrison, my heart just sank for Bronte,” said Jessica. “Because I knew that I recognised him and he was the person I was warned about. Harrison is pretending to be someone that he’s really not. And I have proof.”
DRAMA!

Jessica V Harrison
As Harrison did the rounds meeting and greeting Bronte’s family and friends, he had an awkward interaction with Jessica. “How’s today been?” Harrison asked Jessica. “Not what I expected,” she coldly replied before telling him he’s a lucky man to end up with Bronte, as she has pure intentions going on the show.
But Jessica wasn’t done.
“Sorry, I’m getting called away,” Harrison responded, before abruptly leaving. Whether it was good editing or whether Harrison knew he was caught out and bailed from the situation, we may not know, but did it make excellent TV? Absolutely!
The truth about Harrison
Jessica then pulled Bronte to the side to tell her the truth about her new husband, with some damn RECEIPTS and boy was the tea piping.
“He’s so lovely,” Bronte gushed about her new man. “I’m actually just genuinely blown away that he’s a nice person and I hope he’s here for the right reasons.”
“I need to tell you something,” Jessica then says.
I feel like we’re about to find out that Harrison, is indeed not there for the right reasons. Who would’ve thought!
“I have a friend from Sydney and she told me about this guy who’s going on MAFS that she’s been dating for the last month and a half,” Jessica said. “And I spoke to her and she told me he’s saying to her that he wants to be with her, when he finishes the experiment.”
Then Jessica dropped the bomb that, yep, it’s that dirty dog Harrison who’s playing the fame game.
Jessica then revealed Harrison has been telling this “young girl” that he will be with her post-experiment and she has proof, pulling out her phone and showing producers photos of Harrison that he’s sent to her friend.
But! That’s not all! We’re not even remotely close to being done yet, no sir!
Jessica then told Bronte that Harrison allegedly “joked” about knocking up his outside flame before going on the show, saying it’d be a real “scandal”. I’m sure his parents are so proud.
Harrison had also been packing his bags with his outside boo watching on, with Jessica pulling out yet another receipt of his devious ways.
The! Audacity! Of! This! Man!

Oh, this is also how Bronte found out he had a kid by the way. He hadn’t quite got there yet before Jessica also dropped that bomb.
She may not have shone brightly on The Bachelors, but goodness me, did Jessica do some hard work for this premiere of MAFS!
yes Jessica, you may have got cut from #TheBachelorsAU but now is your time to shine!!! Bring those receipts!! #MAFS #MAFSAU pic.twitter.com/ST72vBYsJ6

The fallout
Bronte pulled her new husband aside for a chat, confronting him about the “20-year-old” he has on the outside. Harrison immediately denied it, while Bronte begged him to be honest. “Um, look, um,” Harrison said articulately, the words of a man who realised he’s been Caught The Fuck Out.
“I was seeing a number of girls before I came into this,” Harrison said. “I’m a single guy in Sydney. I’m not in a relationship, they were just people I was seeing.
“There’s someone I’ve had a crush on for a long time and we connected a week before doing this,” Harrison continued. “In a lot of ways, I was saying [to her] that I kind of wished this was you I was going into this with.”
I think Bronte’s face says it all.
“But I told her I was giving this 100%, you’re blindsiding me with this,” Harrison said, before accusing Bronte of “attacking” him. When Bronte asked why his outside girl would lie about what he said about them continuing on the outside, Harrison just said that she really likes him and that he “might have said things that would soften the blow”.
“I just didn’t want to be an asshole,” Harrison said, sounding like a complete and utter gaslighting asshole.
Harrison somehow gaslighting the 20 year old girl and making her seem crazy is just exactly what I expected from Harrison.#MAFS #MAFSAU

A shoutout to the MVP of the episode
No, not Jessica. We truly stan Bronte’s sister Kirra who didn’t trust Harrison from the moment she met him. “I fucking knew it!” she said when Bronte filled her in. “This whole nice guy facade, this is bullshit, what are you on this f*cking show for?!”
“I F**KING KNEW IT! THIS IS BULLSHIT!!!” I love Bronte’s sister. Consider this a vote for Kirra as fourth expert. #MAFS #MAFSAU

Sooooo, how were things left?
Poor Bronte was absolutely devastated, telling her sister the situation is her “worst nightmare”.
“I just feel like now… is everything he’s telling me the truth?” Bronte asked.
Um, sis, I think we’ve established that no, it’s not.
i've decided harrison & bronte will be the couple who hate each other from the get go and it gets dragged out through the entire season #MAFS

“I have to make a choice for me and my marriage,” Bronte ended the episode with. “And I don’t know what to do.”
Look, Bronte, my Queen, when in doubt, in the words of Britney Spears…
