Tonight’s Confusing ‘MAFS’ Commitment Ceremony Retold Via The Best Tweets

Every now and then in most Married at First Sight series, there comes a point where the drama ceases for some time and the show just becomes sad. Everyone is sad. The contestants are sad. The experts look sad. We’re all sad.

It’s mostly due to mismatched contestants being worn down after trying to make their reality TV relationship work, and you can feel their pure exhaustion seeping through the screen. Tonight, Booka and Brett took centre stage as the most dysfunctional couple in the experiment, that is until it was Bryce’s turn again. Of course.

Bryce decided to deliver the ultimate blindside (does he think he’s on Survivor?) by writing leave and crossing it out and saying ‘stay’. He swears he was doing it to protect Melissa against “bullies” like Rebecca. The other contestants did not understand his logic, the experts didn’t understand it, and I sure as fuck didn’t. But we all know by now Bryce makes little sense at the best of times.

We actually didn’t say goodbye to ANY couples tonight, with Brett opting to stay and get back in Booka’s uh good books after the disastrous letter from Patrick. Booka looked less than thrilled to be trapped in the experiment for another week and I want to now forever imagine her stabbing a tiny voodoo doll decorated with floppy ’90s hair and glasses.

And in big MAFS news, the couples are being sent to a retreat for the new few episodes, to all hang out together and probably drink too much and fight loudly. I’m no psychic but I’m predicting Bec and Bryce will once again fight about their convo in the gym and I will beat myself over the head with a frying pan.

Let’s recap tonight’s commitment ceremony via the best tweets:

The couples discuss the aftermath of the dinner party. Brett eventually apologises to Booka, but in the words of JoJo is it all ‘Too Little, Too Late’?

Bryce tells the boys he thinks Melissa has been worn down by other people in the experiment, and thinks he needs to make a “statement” whatever that means.

Liam and Georgia opt to stay, even though Liam is still coming to terms with Georgia being more “glamourous” than what he’s used to. Kerry and Johnny are super happy in their “vanilla kinky” land.

We get to Booka and Brett and things are tense enough to trigger everyone into thinking about their parents’ divorce. John asks Booka to list off things she likes about Brett. Uhhh maybe she likes the times where he’s not badmouthing her to his mates? Just a thought. Booka wants to leave, while Brett writes stay.

Bec is ecstatic that she and Jake now have “banter” which made them make out for an hour.

After they share the red lingerie story with the experts and talk about getting emotional dancing to their wedding song, Jason umms and ahhs and manages to finally tell Alana he can’t see his life without her.

Belinda and Patrick are pressed to reveal more details about their relationship development. Patrick eventually lands on telling the whole room that he got a handjob.

Bryce and Melissa are the final couple to face the experts. Melissa says she’s getting to the stage where she’s falling in love with Bryce and Bryce for some reason reveals his card where he first wrote “leave” then crossed it out to say “stay”. He said he did this in order to protect Melissa from the bullying going on, but no one… really gets it???

John announces to the couples that they’re all going on retreat.
