Some Confusing Tea About The Infamous ‘MAFS’ Butt Dial Has Come To Light
If you feel like the Married at First Sight butt dial saga that’s unfolded this week was a little too convenient, you’re not alone. Firstly, who butt-dials in the year of 2023? Secondly, how did it just HAPPEN to be at the time when the men were talking badly about their wives?
To catch you up if you’re not across the details, one weekend when MAFS was filming, a few of the grooms went on a lil boys’ night adventure to Opera Bar. Rupert then allegedly butt-dialled his wife Evelyn who overheard Dan and Hugo speaking negatively about their partners, Sandy and Tayla. Armed with this information, Evelyn brought it to the group’s attention and last night’s dinner party was very chaotic as Dan tried to squirm his way out of this hot mess.
At one point, Dan even accused Evelyn of fabricating the whole butt dial story. While we can only assume Dan did say all those things (if the shoe fits, etc.) what are the chances it did actually happen over a butt dial? Seems pretty odd.
And now entertainment site The Wash has shed some light on what could’ve happened, sharing screenshots of leaked text messages between Rupert and Dan. Dan mentions in the messages on 1 October that he can only stay for a couple of drinks because he’s with his daughter.
Then on 16 October, assumedly after the dinner party, Dan texts Rupert to figure out what the hell went down. “That butt dial didn’t happen, we both know it didn’t,” Dan said. “The convo I had with you was during daylight, not after 8pm like accused.”
Dan then even said he went back to the venue and tested out the capabilities of whether someone would overhear a conversation via a butt-dial. Detective Dan!
Rupert replied to Dan saying he was “smoked” that night and that he had gone home and told Evelyn that Dan used to “smash some good sorts back in the day”.

For what it’s worth also, when the camera panned to Evelyn’s phone during last night’s dinner party episode, the date showed that it was 1 October, and the calls all came after 8pm.
And The Wash‘s obtained texts show Rupert trying to call Dan on the same date, at similar times, though weirdly one missed call looks out of place/Photoshopped?
It’s also worth noting another screenshot of the text message from Rupert also looks like it’s been edited in some capacity.
So what is the truth?!
Look… we don’t know. But given Ollie and Duncan both confirmed that Dan said things about Sandy and about his ex-girlfriends, everyone can probably agree the semantics over whether a butt dial happened or not isn’t really the issue at hand here.
