An Extra Has Revealed What The Cast Of ‘Mean Girls’ Were Really Like

I’m a super nosy person when it comes to celeb gossip, so when there’s a whiff of what actors are really like when out of the public eye, I lap that shit up. I’m always hopeful that my fave stars are nice human beings in real life, but sometimes that’s not the case. 

There’s a bunch of buzz about Mean Girls right now, since the new musical version is slated to be released in January 2024. FYI the original film was turned into a Broadway musical back in 2018 and now it’s being made into a film again – and one TikTok user has capitalised on this excitement. 

Tassja, who played the coveted role of Unfriendly Black Hottie in Mean Girls, has shared some behind-the-scenes secrets about the main cast on TikTok. Obviously, I was dying to hear if Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert and Amanda Seyfried were fetch in real life, so I studied Tassja’s videos closely. 

What were the cast of Mean Girls like in real life? 

Lindsay Lohan – Verdict: Fetch

Even though Lindsay Lohan was a child star (shoutout to The Parent Trap), the TikToker says she was nice to work with on Mean Girls. She, of course, played the main role of Cady Heron, a mathlete who was hot AND smart. 

“I’m tired of people lying [and] saying what they want about her,” she said. “One time on set we were doing the cafeteria scene, I think it was the Jambo scene, I thought I was helping her out.”

The extra pointed out that there was something sitting on Lindsay’s lip – which turned out to be a freckle – but the star didn’t seem to mind. Apparently, she was “really nice” about the extremely awkward moment.

Rachel McAdams – Verdict: Fetch

Rachel McAdams played Regina George and absolutely owned that role. I’m happy to report that while she acted like an ice queen in the movie, she was warm and kind behind the scenes. 

“Rachel McAdams is my favourite actress. Anybody who knows me knows how much I love The Hot Chick,” Tassja said. “I had a bunch of scenes with her in the cafeteria and she was just super down-to-earth, super nice, super normal.”

The extra even gave the star a birthday card during filming and to thank her, Rachel signed a VHS copy of The Hot Chick. What a sweetheart. 

Amanda Seyfried – Verdict: Fetch

Amanda Seyfried took on the iconic role of Karen Smith and god, she played this role so well. I don’t think we’ll ever forget the scene where she predicted the weather via ESPN and her breasts. A golden moment in cinema history. 

“The first time I spoke to Amanda was the scene where Regina gets hit by a bus. Amanda was telling me that she was just coming off a soap opera… [and] this [was] her first big role,” Tassja recalled. “She was just really good at acting stupid [but] she was super nice.”

Lacey Chabert – Verdict: Fetch

Lacey Chabert played Gretchen Wieners and we have her to thank for introducing “fetch” and “you can’t sit with us” into our vocabulary. At the start of Tassja’s story, I panicked for a moment, thinking that Lacey was going to be Very Not Fetch.

“You know that awkward moment when you’re staring at someone and then the person looks at you? And then you lock eyes and look away because it’s kind of awkward? We had a moment like that,” she said. “She actually came up to me and said something to the effect of ‘I’m sorry for staring, but we just think that you’re really pretty’.”

There was “no toxic energy” on set, which is a relief. The limit does not exist when it comes to my love for this perfect piece of cinema history.
