Fashion plays an extremely important part in our lives. What you wear says a lot about who you are, what you support and how you want others to perceive you.

Inspired by sponsored Facebook posts to buy t-shirts, the page noticed a gap for highly specific personalised gear. For example…

The best part about this meme page is that they actually create the shirts so that fans can purchase them and flaunt them around town.

We caught up with the fashionable crew behind the page to discover how these extremely specific products came into being.

1. How long have you been running Extremely specific targeted ads for extremely specific lads for and What was the reason you started the page?

Specific lads started off as an idea to mock those targeted t-shirt ads you see advertised on social media. The one’s that say something like “never underestimate a grandpa with a physics degree born in April” that hit waaay too close to home.

We started in late April and it kinda just blew up since then.

A couple of our admins actually admin other meme pages and those connections really helped to get us off the ground.

2. How many admins are there?

I’d say 8 because only 8 of us have created content for the page. There’s a couple other homies that we have as editors that have yet to make content, but still support us in other ways.

3. Where do you get the inspiration behind each post?

Here’s a couple of things some of our admins said about inspiration.

Beware, it’s super inspirational:

“I get most of my inspiration from conversations I have irl or from TV shows”

another admin said

“I get my inspiration from random bullshit that pops in my head. And conversations, memes”.

Personally I get it from shows, conversations, memes, games, drinking with friends, and weird situations.

So I guess it really depends – anything’s up for grabs.

4. What is your most popular shirt!?

Our most popular shirt is Spicy Boy. This was our first shirt that really took off:

The seen meme was released a few weeks later and is in a close second:

The most recent shirt that boomed was our 1991 bepis design. I honestly had no idea that shirt was going to take off so quickly.

5. You’re about to crack 90K likes, did you ever think the page would come this far? And what are the plans for the future?

Well, I personally am a pretty ambitious lad and I was expecting to get in the double digits – but being at almost 90k is a feat I wasn’t sure we’d ever pull off.

Some of the affiliated meme pages our admins run range in the 20k-60k+ like range but, personally, this is my most successful page yet. I’d like to branch out and get a more successful Instagram and twitter following in the future. A couple of our admins are working on a political page called “POLITICALADS” which will feature political shirts on every range of the political spectrum. (Specific Lads has no political affiliation)

6. Out of all of the different fonts you use for your shirts which is your favourite and why?

Well, come on. Isn’t this one obvious? Comic sans is the most beautiful typeface ever to be created. (Years ago one of our admins harassed the creator of comic sans but we won’t get into that)

Oh, and then there’s this:

7. Any chance of doing a real life pop up store?

Oh heck! That would be a fantastic venture I’d love to do! We’d probably have it in Los Angeles (where I’m based) if we were to ever go through with one.

If we continue to grow I’d love to slang some shirts at a local show!

8. Are there any other meme pages you could recommend?

Content zone is a fantastic page. A lot of their content has given me inspiration over the last few months. There’s just sooo many great pages these days.

Here’s a few I love: animals in predicaments, cracking open a cold one with the boys, erics creamy memes, sometimes I just be thinking, フレッドYOLO, exploding fish shitposting and senseless drivel inc., Cool 3D Penguin Stock Image Memes, gay dads dot com, Kevin 3, and so many more I can’t think of off the top of my head.
