Halloween is around the corner and the hunt for the hottest costume of 2022 has begun.

Many influencers have flocked to social media to share their ideas, inspo, and even some makeup tutorials to help others get ready for the spooky season.

Some others are also sharing some cheeky couple costumes that are lowkey hilarious.

And just like every other year, there will always be one completely overdone costume. A great example of this is when Suicide Squad dropped, and everyone went as Harley Quinn.

2022 has given us some zingers in pop culture, such as Stranger Things, Elvis, House Of The Dragon, which will likely serve as some Halloween inspo for this year.

Quick disclaimer, if you end up doing these costumes it’s not a bad thing at all, but if you want to be unique this year the folllowing are a bunch of costumes to avoid.

So without further ado, here’s a list of costumes that could be overdone this Halloween.

 1. Eddie Munson

Due to his popularity on the internet as well as his low maintenance costume, Eddie Munson will definitely be overdone. Plus who doesn’t like being a grunge rocker boy once a year?

2. Someone from the Targaryen family

Although House Of The Dragon just dropped, it’s without a doubt that we will be seeing a bunch of Targaryen’s running amuck on the street this Halloween.

I remember when Game Of Thrones was a thing and every hot girl slayed as Khalessi, AKA The Mother Of Dragons.

With a larger range of silver haired characters, GOT fans will defs put their own spin on the Targaryen family. Just make sure you don’t end up on Junkee’s bad wig rating.

3. Sexy Elf

Lord Of The Rings came through this year with The Rings Of Power and of course, who could forget the elves.

I still remember the day I first laid eyes on Legolas and I was instantly in love, so who wouldn’t want to be a hot elf this Halloween?! Elves are often very elegant so it gives an opportunity for the fantasy girlies to pull out their most magical fits for this one night of the year.

One problem you may face as an elf is people asking which Targaryen you are, so best to get those elf ears ASAP.

4. Mystery Inc

With the recent news of Velma coming out, and Mindy Kaling’s HBO spin-off series around the corner, it’s without a doubt that Velma will be a popular costume choice.

Dressing up as Mystery Inc is super easy as well, and a lot of the things needed to replicate their look can be found at the op-shop. Also you can have a furry friend to finish off your group costume!

Some people have also gotten creative and taken different parts of the live-action movies and turned them into costumes such as hot Velma and the chick version of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.

5. Jeffrey Dahmer

With the success of Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, I have a sinking filming that some viewers may turn Dahmer into a real life costume.

And if that does become a reality, dressing up as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween is extremely distasteful especially to victim’s families who may come across pics of these costumes.

People on Twitter have also called out this terrible idea.

The mother of Tony Hughes, who was a victim of Jeffrey Dahmer, spoke out about the trend, telling TMZ, “it’s already super triggering to see a hit Netflix series about the serial killer, much less folks dressing like the killer.”

Although Halloween isn’t that big in Australia, we really hope people do the responsible thing and not do this.

6. Eshay

Living in Western Sydney, eshays would come around house to house for candy in their lad gear, so I feel like this look has been around for ages and I’ve grown numb to it. But with the popularity of Heartbreak High, eshay and lad-wear will undoubtedly be a popular look this Halloween.

Dressing up as an eshay is super duper easy, you could probs find half the stuff at an op-shop. Eshay wear is also super comfy, so it would be an easy enough thing to dress up for a last minute spooky gatho.

7. Elvis and Priscilla

The internet was FROTHING over Elvis when it dropped a couple of months ago. ICYMI, Elvis was a movie based on the rock ‘n’ roll icon Elvis Presley, who was played by Austin Butler.

Ever since the movie dropped, fans have shared their Elvis and Priscilla looks on TikTok. As a couple, or as singles, I think Elvis and Priscilla will be an overdone costume due to the movie, but if put together well, it’s a slay.

8. Wednesday Addams

Firstly, I’d like to say that Wednesday Addams has always been a popular costume.

All you need is two braids, a black dress, pale makeup, and a blank stare. With Netflix’s Wednesday coming out on the 23rd of November, we reckon there may be a few out there dressing up as the iconic gothic little girl.

Just like most of the costumes on this list, it is a super easy fit, esp for those who are looking for a last minute costume but you may spot another Wednesday Addams walking down the street.

9. Cowboy/Cowgirl

Ever since ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X became a viral hit, the cowboy/cowgirl aesthetic has taken over a range of events including Halloween, music festivals, and themed parties.

When Squid Game dropped on Netflix last year, it seemed like the world went through a whole cultural reset.

From our shared hate for Sang-Woo and our shared crush for Sae-Byeok, it felt like everyone was on the Squid Game wave. So without a doubt, the Squid Game tracksuits and the guard costumes will probably be around for a while for the next 10 years.
