It’s been an emotional week. One of Australia’s most beloved TV shows, Neighbours, has aired its final episode ever, and I feel like a piece of Australian culture  is now missing.

I may not have kept up in the final years of its airing, but everyone knows that Neighbours is an Australian icon.

In March this year, the devastating news was announced that the Aussie soap would be axed, and a lot of fans from across the globe were left heartbroken. “Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show,” the show’s Twitter account confirmed.

Although the news hit hard for Neighbours fans, it also gave an opportunity for former stars who started their careers on the show to come back to Ramsay Street for one final hurrah. Rumours then swirled that the likes of Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie, and Delta Goodrem were slated to return.

The final week of episodes has now come to a close, and we got to see a bunch of familiar faces — it was heartwarming to see some of our nation’s biggest celebs say goodbye to the Australian institution.

If you missed out on Neighbours’ final week, here are all the cameos that had us starstruck:

Rob Mills

Millsy reprised his role as villain, Finn Kelly, for the final episodes of Neighbours. Finn was originally killed off in 2020, after he hit his head on a rock while digging a grave.

Holly Valance & Natalie Imbruglia

Holly Valance made her appearance on the final week alongside Neighbours alum and music superstar, Natalie Imbruglia. Natalie played Beth Brennan from 1992 to 1994, and Holly played Flick Scully from 1999 to 2002. In the cameo, they briefly talk about their time in Erinsborough — it was a short and sweet scene. They also made a quick cameo in the end during a video call for Toadie’s wedding.

Bonnie Anderson

Aussie musician, Bonnie Anderson, joined the show as Bea Nillson from 2018 to 2021, and of course, she made a return in 2022 for the finale episode.

Guy Pearce

Hollywood’s Guy Pearce made a comeback to Ramsay Street, reprising his role as Mike Young for the final three episodes. He exited the show in 1989 after joining the series in 1986. Guy spoke about the impact Neighbours had on his career in an interview with Who, telling the magazine,”Being cast in Neighbours, the confidence it gave me and what I learnt being on the show were immeasurable qualities and benefits,” he said.

Margot Robbie

Some fans were absolutely shocked at this cameo, as we know Margot’s busy filming Barbie but she did make a brief appearance via video call. Margot was on Neighbours from 2008 to 2011 as Donna Freeman. She left Neighbours with plans to make it in Hollywood. “I want to go to America; it’s always been my goal to work in Hollywood. It’s the one stage in my life where I have absolutely nothing holding me down,” she said in a statement at the time.

With two Academy Award nominations under her belt, I reckon she didn’t do too bad for herself.

Delta Goodrem

Similar to Margot, Delta Goodrem’s appearance on the finale also came via video call, but regardless it was so lovely to see her! Delta played Nina Tucker from 2002 to 2005. She also reprised her role briefly in 2015 for the show’s anniversary special, Neighbours 30th: The Stars Reunite.

Jodi Gordon

Aussie soap star, Jodi Gordon, played Elly Conway from 2016 to 2020, and for the finale she revisited that role.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte

Natalie Bassingthwaighte reprised her role as villain, Isabella Hoyland, for the final episodes of Neighbours. She played Izzy from 2003 to 2007 and made a guest appearance in 2018.

Daniel MacPherson

Heartthrob Daniel MacPherson played Joel Samuels on Neighbours from 1998 to 2002.

Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue

Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue reprised their roles as Neighbours power couple — Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell — for the final episode ever. One thing about Neighbours is that you’ll immediately associate these two with the show, especially their wedding episode.

Kylie played Charlene from 1986 to 1988, and Jason played Scott from 1986 to 1989. To accompany the final episode, next month Kylie will be releasing a vinyl and cassette of the former couple’s iconic duet ‘Especially For You’.
