After years of murders/abductions/car accidents/milk incidents, the Ramsay Street gang over at Neighbours have finally become good friends. Yep, the Aussie classic is done and dusted forever.

Earlier this year, Neighbours was cancelled in light of plummeting ratings, which was further exacerbated by the show being dropped by its UK network, Channel 5.

For a time during the late ’80s/early ’90s, Neighbours was a phenomenon not just locally, but it pulled huge numbers in the UK. For instance, the 1988 wedding episode of Charlene (Kylie Minogue) and Scott (Jason Donovan) was watched by an astounding 20 million people in the UK alone.

These were the glory days of Neighbours, a series which would go on to make household names out of the likes of Kylie, Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce, Delta Goodrem, Natalie Imbruglia, Holly Valance, and Natalie Bassingthwaighte — who all made cameos during Thursday night’s finale.

The long-running series didn’t come without controversies. From criticism over the series’ almost completely white cast, to featuring storylines that were straight-up offensive and racist, the TV soap made a lot of mistakes in its three decades on air.

While some critics are happy to see the series end, longtime fans were clinging to its final moments during last night’s final episode. One thing we can all agree on is that the best thing about the Neighbours finale was seeing all the returning characters — and the memes to come from Twitter.

For the people who haven’t watched Neighbours since they were kids (me hello!), the finale was a real fever dream.
